Essential Functions
- Identify those factors in a child's living situation (home, school, and community, culture) which negatively affect his/her education and communicate needs as needed
- Consult with classroom teachers, parents/guardian(s) and administrators to develop intervention strategies to reduce barriers to school success
- Provide school personnel with essential information and training to better understand how factors such as family, culture, socioeconomic status, and physical and mental health issues can affect students' performance and behavior
- Consult, communicate, and work cooperatively with teams to provide appropriate programming for students and maintain a positive work environment for all
- Implement positive behavior interventions and supports to promote student progress, reinforcing positive behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques, and redirecting inappropriate behaviors
- Participate in IEP and staff meetings and provide input into goals
- Stay abreast of current trends and evidence based practices, attending trainings as needed, and providing the information and training to the team
- Works collaboratively with the team to identify and implement evidence based and trauma-informed strategies to increase self-regulation and classroom engagement
- Utilize and train program philosophies and foundational elements with fidelity specific to the individual program
- Be knowledgeable and sensitive to each person's (students, staff, community) cultural identity and ensure that the community is ethically responsive and actively advocates so that each person feels safe and supported in a non-discriminatory environment
- Provide support and skill groups for students.
- Provide services coordination for students and families requiring multiple services and/or resources
- Provide parent education and training
- Facilitate communication between school and parents/guardians as needed
- Consult and collaborate with community agencies and mental health professionals
- Contact with parent/guardian(s), outside agencies, and other professionals as needed but will not replace the Case Manager as primary contact
- Serve as a resource to building staff regarding identification and reporting of child abuse/neglect, however, the actual report will need to be made by the person with first hand information as required by law
- Provide mental health assessment crisis intervention and will collaborate with the team regarding safety planning
- Utilize verbal intervention strategies and trauma-informed support during high risk scenarios and will direct staff as needed to ensure safety
- Uses flexible thinking and adaptability proactively to address student needs and responds calmly during crisis situations
Uphold the ethical standards and principles of the social work/mental health profession
Perform Other Duties As Assigned Education & TrainingMaster's Degree and preferred training in trauma-informed practices, cultural responsivity, positive behavior intervention and support (PBIS), restorative practices, nurtured heart, assent-based learning, Ukeru.

- LAMFT
- LGSW
- LISW
- LICSW
- LPC
- LPCC
- ?
Licensed School Counselor
- 3 or more years working with youth with disabilities (EBD, SLD, LD ASD)
- Trauma informed care
- Knowledge of PBIS
- Restorative practices
- Working with a diverse population
- Willingness and ability to work with students receiving a high-level of special education services
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication with staff, students, and parents that is maintained during high-stress and crisis situations
- Implement and lead crisis prevention and intervention
- Able to utilize technology as needed
Skills And Abilities
Experience mental health/consulting and implementing positive behavior interventions and supports. Willingness and ability to work with students receiving a high-level of special education services.
