- Expected 2026 Hiring Range: $30.36 – $32.37 per hour ($63,148.80 – $67,329.60 annually)
- Full Range: $30.36 – $39.23 per hour ($63,148.80 – $81,598.40 annually)

The Environmental Compliance Specialist enforces Isanti County ordinances, works closely with the Health & Safety Coordinator, and protects the community from environmental factors. Work involves field inspections, research, testimony at hearings, and consulting with developers and the public.
Essential Functions- Investigate complaints and conduct field investigations of potential violations; gather evidence; issue correction notices or initiate formal complaints.
- Advises developers, contractors, property owners, and the public regarding County Ordinance requirements.
- Performs inspections of properties to determine compliance with ordinances and regulations.
- Provides consultative and technical assistance services to operators, government partners, and the public.
- Obtains evidence of environmental code violations.
- Prepares detailed reports of activities and investigations made; testifies in court.
- Utilizes the GIS database in the Zoning Department.
- Assists with front counter and other duties assigned by the Zoning Administrator.
- Associate’s degree in physical sciences or related field OR 2 years of experience in County Zoning compliance atmosphere.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in public health or physical sciences OR 4 years of experience in County Zoning compliance atmosphere.
- Experience as a paid employee of a regulatory agency.
- Subsurface Sewage Treatment Systems Certification.
- Extensive knowledge of Isanti County zoning and solid waste ordinances.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance principles and practices.
- Ability to conduct site inspections in varying terrain.
- Ability to analyze complex situations and use sound judgement.
- Ability to testify in court.
Work requires frequent exertion up to 10 pounds of force, occasional exertion up to 25 pounds of force, standing, walking, handling equipment, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions. The work is generally in a moderately noisy location.
Supplemental InformationFinal appointment is contingent upon a background investigation. Costs of the background investigation are paid by Isanti County.
