Job Title: Economic Development Manager FLSA Status: Exempt
Summary:The City of Cambridge is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Community and Economic Development Director. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional who enjoys working with business owners, growing the community, and marketing the organization. This position will directly supervise the building department and is responsible for managing economic development functions including TIF, BRE programs, marketing strategies, and more.
This position is an integral part of the City’s efforts to support economic vibrancy and opportunity.
Minimum requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, business administration, or related field and at least three years of relevant experience with responsibility for community and/or economic development issues. Candidates must have knowledge of public/private sector financing and tax laws, rules, and regulations. Preferred Qualifications include a Master’s Degree in the above fields and/or specific certification and training such as the National Development Council or CED.
Starting salary is $46.63 to $51.66 per hour plus full benefits. FullDescription:
PURPOSE
Performs day-to-day supervision of the building department as well as occasional supervision of entire community and economic development department. Responsible for and manages the City’s existing economic development functions including TIF compliance reporting, Business Assistance Programs, Marketing Strategies, Workforce Development, and more. Interacts with other governmental agencies and community organizations focused on the economic improvement of the region. Effectively recommends programs and projects to Community and Economic Development Director.
ORGANIZATIONALRELATIONSHIPS
Communication
Internally- frequent interaction with all city staff, City Council, and Economic Development Authority.
Externally- frequent contact with public, developers, State and Federal agencies, consultants, consulting engineers, businesses, and residents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Administer, manage, and promote economic development activities in a manner that will assure effective programs and development in accordance with applicable comprehensive plans, ordinances, and economic development strategies.
- Manage business expansion, retention and recruitment. Serves as City’s liaison to new and current businesses.
- Facilitate the Economic Development Authority meetings. Prepare staff reports for the Cambridge Economic Development Authority. Attend meetings and make presentations. Provides recommendations and assists with budgeting implications.
- Develop and implement strategies to promote the community of Cambridge to interested developers at the direction of the Economic Development Authority.
- Direct and support public information regarding economic development in the community and related issues.
- Provide support to consultants retained by the City for Economic Development projects and makes recommendations to the City Administrator regarding City ordinances and policies affecting economic development.
- Meets with citizens, boards and commissions, local businesses, developers, prospective businesses and staff on matters related to economic development such as transportation planning, land use planning, etc.
