PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Assistant Produce Manager is responsible for assisting the Produce Manager by providing direct supervision of the Produce department operations, including customer service and ensuring associates follow company policies and procedures. He/she must achieve production and budget objectives and perform stocking duties as needed. Excellent customer service skills are essential, as he/she serves as a role model for other associates.

ESSENTIAL

JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assist the Department Manager in all aspects of the operation and supervision of the Department, including: supervision of personnel; providing customer service; achieving sales, gross profit, labor, shrink and inventory goals set for the Department; product ordering, quality, presentation, merchandising, organization, pricing, stocking, shelf allocation, staffing, training, turnover and morale.
  • Assure that all Company and Department specific policies and procedures are adhered to on a regular basis.
  • Perform job functions of other Department personnel in their absence and/or in addition to them.
  • In the absence of the Department Manager, act as a temporary manager and perform all associated management functions of the Department.
  • Effectively supervise 2 to 20 associates in a fast‑paced, multi‑functional environment and take appropriate disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Operate various store computer systems.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assist the Department Manager with periodic reviews of work practices and provide information to Store Management.
  • Assist the Department Manager in achieving objectives such as food safety, workplace safety, and company audits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Store Management.
ASSIGNMENT, REVIEW, AND APPROVAL OF WORK
  • Assign, review, and approve work of all clerks under direct supervision.
  • Take initiative to anticipate necessary work and ensure completion in a timely manner.
  • Determine appropriate staffing levels for each shift based on business needs.
  • Prepare work schedules on a weekly basis.
RESPONSIBILITY AND DECISION‑MAKING AUTHORITY
  • Recommend staffing decisions, interview and recommend hiring of Department personnel.
  • Assign, direct, and train Department personnel.
  • Assist in performance appraisals for all Department personnel.
  • Recommend discipline up to and including termination; impose suspension with approval.
  • Schedule work hours, time off, and authorize overtime.
  • Accept valid excuses for absences, tardiness, or early departures.
  • Supervise the entire department in the absence of the Department Manager.
  • Achieve goals established by the Store Manager and Department Manager.
  • Understand and support Department policies and procedures.
  • Ensure associates perform work safely and ergonomically; take action on unsafe conditions.
RELATIONS WITH OTHERS

Must be able to relate to the following in a courteous and professional manner: customers, supervisors, subordinates, co‑workers, store management, vendors, and any other individuals encountered while on duty.

  • Minimum age 18 years.
