Job Description ins PSS is seeking a passionate and dedicated Functional Genomics Scientist with expertise in pooled CRISPR screening and scRNA‑seq. The candidate will work directly on the client site in Cambridge, MA and will collaborate with scientists from multiple therapeutic areas (Oncology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Cardiometabolic Disease, Pharmacology, and Chemical Biology) to develop high‑throughput cutting‑edge genomic technologies to better understand disease mechanisms and to accelerate the discovery of new targets and biomarkers across therapeutic areas.

The candidate will utilize innovative genetic screening (CRISPR) and multi‑omics single cell sequencing approaches (CROP‑seq/Perturb‑Seq, REAP‑Seq, optical pooled screening) to impact all stages of the pipeline from pre‑clinical to clinical development. The candidate will support the client’s dynamic and innovative early discovery research environment and will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues.

This is a hands‑on position. The ideal candidate shall have excellent lab skills, strong documentation skills, ability to analyze and summarize data to draw conclusions, and make recommendations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, execute, analyze, and interpret cell‑based assays and determine feasibility and best approach for pooled scRNA‑seq
  • Perform CROP‑seq/Perturb‑seq screens with guidance from colleagues
  • Work closely with bioinformatics groups across MRL to coordinate data transfer and analysis
  • Communicate progress, results, and conclusions to the group, project teams and other stakeholders
  • Maintain detailed lab notebook and records of work
  • This position is lab based and requires 5 days on site and 90% of time in the lab
Qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D. degree in cell and molecular biology or related scientific discipline with 3+ years of experience in industry
  • Extensive hands‑on experience in cell‑based assay development and pooled CRISPR screens
  • Hands‑on experience with scRNA‑seq sample generation
  • Working knowledge and experience in molecular biology assays, especially next generation sequencing and/or other high throughput genomic technologies
  • Attention to detail and strong ability to troubleshoot and optimize novel methods
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills including an ability to effectively communicate experimental design, results, and conclusions
  • Ability to work independently, but also an ability to work effectively in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment
  • Self‑motivated and capable of prioritizing deliverables among multiple simultaneous projects
  • Drug discovery experience in biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry, experience working in a highly matrixed organization

Preferred:

  • Experience analyzing single cell sequencing data sets (CROP‑seq/Perturb‑seq)
  • Experience with optical pooled screening, high content phenotypic screens and image analysis
