The Housing Department coordinates efforts to meet the housing needs of low, moderate, and middle-income residents through initiatives that create and preserve affordable housing, especially for families with children, and offers access to affordable housing. The Housing Department oversees the use of Trust funds and works with affordable housing developers to leverage this funding with resources from other public and private funders.
The Department also works with partners to ensure new affordable housing reflects the City’s commitment to high quality, environmentally sustainable design and construction, and creates valuable resources for future residents and the community.
THE ROLE
The Inclusionary Rental Housing Associate will be a key member of the Housing Department’s inclusionary rental housing program team. They will work with rental applicants, tenants, City staff, non-profit organizations, Cambridge and other Public Housing Authorities, private housing developers and managers, and other housing advocates and service providers. The Associate will manage tenant selection, leasing, recertifications, and applicant pools for the City’s inclusionary rental housing program.
The Associate will also conduct workshops for residents in need of housing assistance and participate in outreach events to publicize the City’s housing programs.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Work with housing applicants through all phases of the application process and review of eligibility requirements including income certification.
- Review and process annual recertifications of tenant eligibility for resident compliance with program requirements.
- Manage turnover processing for available rental units; work with property managers to coordinate applicant review, offering and leasing of affordable units to selected applicants.
- Coordinate and conduct program information sessions workshops to educate residents on housing options in the city and counsel housing applicants for on available options.
- Attend community events to publicize available housing assistance.
- Develop and maintain relationships with residents, property managers, and other agencies and service providers.
- Maintain and manage applicant information and preference groups in program management software.
- Compile, report and analyze data on program utilization for program evaluation, management, and goal setting.
- Assist with other City housing programs and special projects as needed.
- Perform other duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSAs a member of the Housing Department, the Inclusionary Housing Rental Associate will manage rental waiting pools and recertifications for the City’s rental housing program, calculate income and asset eligibility, and assign preference point eligibility as set by program standards.
Experience and Education- Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience in affordable housing programs, or equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience. A master’s degree in community development, public administration, or a related field may be substituted for 2 years of experience.

- Excellent attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to understand, interpret, summarize and communicate program policies, guidelines, and complex information to program participants and a diverse range of audiences; excellent analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, tasks, and interactions in a fast-paced office environment while remaining attentive to accuracy of work.
- Strong computer skills including demonstrated proficiency with essential software (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook).
- Ability to set priorities and to work independently and efficiently to manage individual responsibilities.
