Interim Controller

Description

Our client, a professional services firm in the Cambridge area, is seeking an Interim Controller to join their team. This Contract to permanent role requires a skilled financial leader who can manage accounting operations, oversee financial reporting, and maintain robust internal controls. The ideal candidate will be comfortable handling detailed accounting processes while providing strategic financial guidance to internal stakeholders and international partners.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a well-established finance function and potentially evolve into a long-term leadership role.

Responsibilities:

- Manage and execute close processes, including preparing and reviewing journal entries

- Oversee accounts payable processes to ensure timely and accurate posting during quarter close

- Prepare and deliver comprehensive financial reports, including balance sheets and income statements

- Conduct detailed balance sheet reconciliations on a regular basis to ensure all activity is accounted for

- Coordinate financial reporting requirements with international parent entities and ensure compliance

- Supervise daily accounting operations, including payroll, procurement, banking, and disbursements

- Ensure expense management and procurement systems are fully integrated and reconciled

- Provide expertise in Net Suite, Prendio, Expensify, and other financial platforms to streamline operations

- Analyze and interpret contracts to ensure proper accounting treatment and compliance with regulations

- Collaborate with functional leaders and FP& A teams on cash forecasting and budget analysis

Requirements

- Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial and accounting roles, preferably within the biotech industry

- Strong expertise in Net Suite and related financial systems

- Comprehensive knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS standards

- Proven ability to manage clinical trial accruals and expense classifications

- Advanced skills in balance sheet reconciliations and income statement preparation

- Experience with contract interpretation and ensuring accurate accounting treatments

- Ability to lead a team through financial close processes and deliver results under tight deadlines

- Familiarity with clinical accounting and share-based compensation management
