Student Services Counselor
We are looking for a Student Services Counselor who is committed to ensuring access and affordability for students and families through expert financial guidance and student support. This role reports to the Assistant Director for Customer Service and rotates through a high‑traffic student services center, managing inquiries via phone, email, and in‑person interactions. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of student accounts, financial aid, and academic policies to help resolve a wide range of issues and contribute to the organization’s goals around service and student retention.
The position offers a pay rate of $27 per hour.
- Apply expert knowledge of student accounts, financial aid, loans, and academic records to resolve issues
- Interpret and implement policies and regulations, maintaining up‑to‑date documentation and compliance
- Provide responsive, personalized support to students, families, alumni, and external contacts
- Guide clients through financial aid options, loan services, and payment plans across multiple communication channels
- Identify and correct student account discrepancies; authorize refunds and manage charge reversals
- Coordinate with internal departments to resolve account holds and respond to loan‑related inquiries
- 3+ years of experience in student financial services or related areas within higher education
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex policies and regulations
- Experience handling confidential information with discretion and professionalism
- Background in delivering presentations or workshops in student services
- Exposure to working with multiple administrative and student information systems
- Familiarity with education loan servicing, repayment guidance, and regulatory compliance
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve complex financial issues
- Excellent communication skills across in‑person, written, and digital channels
- High attention to detail and ability to manage responsibilities in a fast‑paced environment
- Experience with public speaking, client education, or stakeholder engagement
- Proficiency in digital content editing and communication tools
- Ability to work effectively across culturally diverse populations and maintain confidentiality
