MECHANICAL ENGINEER 1 Posting Description
MIT Kavli Institute seeks a Mechanical Engineer 1 to support the design, development, fielding, and operation of complex astrophysics instruments and laboratory experimentation associated with spaceflight (e.g. GOSoX, AXIS) and ground (e.g. Giant Magellan Telescope) observatories in collaboration with faculty, students, research scientists, and engineering staff. Specialty experience in optical design and opto‑mechanical mounting is desired. Under the tutelage of the Senior Mechanical Engineer, the role includes specification, optical and mechanical drafting, fabrication oversight, and assembly of both laboratory and flight‑grade systems.
