Lab Automation Engineer (Clinical/Development)

Location: Onsite – Cambridge, MA

Schedule: Standard business hours with flexibility for occasional off-hours equipment work

Role Overview

Seeking a hands‑on Lab Automation Engineer to support and expand automated laboratory workflows across a drug discovery and development environment. This role will partner closely with scientists to translate manual assays into scalable, high‑throughput automated processes and maintain multiple standalone and integrated automation platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated lab workflows using liquid- and plate-handling robotics
  • Develop, script, and optimize automation protocols (C#, APIs, LIMS integrations)
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation, system connectivity, and workflow performance issues
  • Transition manual assays to automated platforms; improve throughput and reproducibility
  • Perform equipment maintenance, vendor coordination, and preventive maintenance support
  • Author SOPs and method documentation for automated systems
  • Train users and provide hands‑on support in an onsite lab environment
Required Qualifications
  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering, Bioengineering, Life Sciences, or related field
  • 5–10 years of hands‑on lab automation experience (individual contributor role)
  • Experience with liquid-handling robotics (e.g., Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman, Perkin Elmer)
  • Strong programming/scripting experience (C#, automation software, APIs, LIMS)
  • Proven ability to collaborate with scientists and automate complex biological workflows
  • Strong troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Biology or biochemistry background to partner effectively with scientists
  • Experience with integrated automation platforms (e.g., High Res/Cellario)
  • Vendor management and end‑user training experience
