Control Room Operator (2nd Class Engineer), Facilities – Central Utilities Plant (CUP), is responsible for monitoring, operating and controlling the CUP facilities from the distributed control system (DCS). The role performs related duties throughout the facilities; ensures all CUP equipment operates within design parameters and in compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; conducts plant startups and shutdowns; participates in the review of problems, incidents, and unusual events;

performs routine operational tests and adjustments; maintains accurate records and logs; conducts equipment switching and lockout/tagout procedures; operates plant systems to meet specified parameters; monitors operations; optimizes performance; ensures emissions control compliance; keeps facilities clean and safe; and troubleshoots equipment failures. The operator also operates chillers, boilers, and other CUP equipment and trains Plant Operators in DCS operations.

Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum Massachusetts 2nd Class Stationary Engineer License and Driver’s License.
  • Minimum three years of operating experience in power generation or central utility plant.
  • Ability to move 50 pounds and work on ladders, scaffolds, and other above ground locations.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety-related uniforms must be worn as required.
  • May work with hazardous materials.
  • Requires extended working hours including shift work, weekends, evenings, and holidays; may be required to perform call‑in duty.
  • Position will require a crossover shift; employees assigned may have schedule changes to cover other employees’ vacation periods.
  • PREFERRED:
    Hoisting License 1C and Industrial Waste Treatment Grade 2 License.
