Software Test Engineer

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking Test Engineers at multiple levels to support advanced avionics integration and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing for mission-critical aerospace systems. This role involves automated verification, system-level testing, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure high reliability and performance. This is a fully onsite position in Cambridge, MA

.

• Configure and maintain test environments (hardware, software, network) to replicate production systems.
• Design, develop, and execute test plans, cases, and scenarios for avionics systems.
• Perform verification and validation of software and hardware components.
• Develop and maintain automated test scripts and HIL systems for avionics platforms.
• Collaborate with CI/CD (Dev Sec Ops ) teams to integrate testing into deployment pipelines.
• Identify and report defects, issues, and vulnerabilities; provide feedback for design improvements.
• Document and maintain test plans, procedures, and metrics in compliance with security protocols.
• Level 4 & 5: Lead technical efforts, advise on test strategies, and integrate AI tools into HIL development.
• Level 5: Oversee a small technical team, communicate progress to leadership, and drive advanced software capabilities.

• Proficiency in NI Test Stand, NI Veri Stand, NI LabVIEW (or similar HIL platforms).
• Hands-on experience with NI PXIe systems and hardware integration.
• Strong programming skills in C/C++, Python, MATLAB

• Familiarity with avionics communication protocols (
  MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, CAN
  ).
• Knowledge of automated testing frameworks and version control systems (Git).
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Comfortable working with lab hardware and instrumentation.

• Experience with FPGA testing/architecture
  .
• Familiarity with AI tools for HIL development.
• Research or publications in HIL or AI software (Level
  5).
• Signal processing and data acquisition techniques.

• Level 3 (Experienced): Bachelor’s + 3 years OR Master’s + 1 year.
• Level 4 (Senior): Bachelor’s + 5 years OR Master’s + 3 years OR PhD + 1 year.
• Level 5 (Technical Lead): Bachelor’s + 7 years OR Master’s + 5 years OR PhD + 3 years.

$125,000-$190,000 based on experience
