Summary Description

BB&N is seeking a Middle School Learning Specialist for a one-year leave. Responsibilities include the coordination of academic student support for the 7th and 8th grades—working with teachers to support best practices to improve student learning, supporting student assessment, teaching individual or small groups when necessary, documenting student progress and needs, and conferencing with students. The MS Learning Specialist will work closely with the Middle School Director and the Director of Student Support Services.

Tasks And Responsibilities

This position will require collaboration with Learning Specialists on all three campuses and support the transitions of students and families from campus to campus. In addition, the Learning Specialist will assist educators and families with the continued management of Learning Profiles, as well as assist with communication for those students receiving outside support.

  • Co‑leadership role of the Student Support Team.
  • Collaboration with and supervision of the Academic Specialist.
  • Provide direct services to students needing support.
  • Direct work with teachers and advisors.
  • Coordinate referrals for outside evaluations.
  • Coordinate in‑house intake of evaluations, including creation of learning profiles.
  • Provide consults to teachers, advisors, parents, and outside providers.
Requirements, Skills, And Competencies

A Graduate degree in Special Education, Language & Literacy, Educational Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, or a related field is required. Proven experience working with children of middle school age with mild to moderate learning needs.
