Buckingham Browne & Nichols School is seeking a part‑time (60%) Upper School Visual Arts Teacher to teach three sections of Upper School Art, including electives in Architecture. The teacher will create individual and group projects as curriculum guided by pre‑existing course descriptions and input from the department chair. This is a one‑year hire with the possibility of long‑term renewal, dependent on departmental needs.
We are seeking a knowledgeable Arts Teacher who values student voice and agency, utilizes a variety of pedagogical approaches, and can work independently and collaboratively. The Arts Teacher collaborates closely with colleagues in the Arts Department and attends regular department and faculty meetings, as well as three to four evenings of art gallery openings. Additional responsibilities will vary according to current program needs and new initiatives as determined by the Department Chair and the Upper School Director.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Plans and develops an engaging, age‑appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and curriculum guidelines.
- Prepares materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance.
- Supervises the behavior of students in the classroom, school grounds, and educational trips, and discusses academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students as they arise.
- Monitors students' progress throughout the year.
- Communicates progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or campus Director.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents, students, and colleagues.
- Enforces safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors.
- Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
- Monitors halls, study periods, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staff.
- Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in‑service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars.
- Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices.
