The Department of Celtic Languages and Literatures seeks applications for a lecturer in Celtic Languages and Literatures. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2026. The lecturer will be responsible for teaching two courses per semester at both the undergraduate and graduate level in the field of Celtic Languages and Literatures broadly conceived (e.g. language, literature, history, manuscript studies, etc.).

The position is for three years, with the second two years contingent on a satisfactory performance review during the first year.

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Celtic Studies or related discipline required by the time the appointment begins.

Additional Qualifications

  • Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching is desired.

Application Materials

  • Cover letter, including a description of the candidate’s teaching/advising philosophy and practices as well as their approach to creating a learning environment in which every student is encouraged to ask questions and share their ideas.
  • A list of 4 proposed courses accompanied by a brief description (three or four sentences) of each course.
  • Writing sample, such as a journal article or dissertation chapter.
  • Names and contact information of three to five referees, who will be asked to upload a letter of recommendation if the candidate is invited to interview for the position. At least three letters of recommendation must be received for the candidates being interviewed.

This position may be represented by the Harvard Academic Workers ( HAW ) – UAW for purposes of collective bargaining and matters affecting your compensation and working conditions.

Salary Range: $70,300-$72,900 (Pay offered to the selected candidate is dependent on factors such as years of experience, training or qualification, field of scholarship, and accomplishments in the field.)
