Tobin Montessori School is an American Montessori Society Accredited elementary school dedicated to providing a quality educational experience for children in the Children’s House (3-6 years old), Lower Elementary (6-9 years old), and Upper Elementary Programs (9-11 years old). All of the classrooms are multi-age, and students remain in each level with the same teacher. In each of the levels, students engage in a wide range of activities to stimulate intellectual, physical, and social growth.
In Montessori, the beautifully prepared environment includes areas of: practical life, sensorial, math, language, geography, cultural studies, science, art, and music.
In addition to academics, children learn how to become responsible members of the school community. We support this work through Grace and Courtesy and Responsive Classroom curricula. Self-respect, respect for others, respect for the environment, compassion, and cooperation are key elements that are taught and modeled throughout the school.
Physical Education Extended-Term Substitute Teacher (ETS)Teaching all students ages 4-11. The P.E. classes, similar to our general education classes, are all multiage:
- Children’s House- JK/K students
- Lower Elementary
- Grades 1-3 - Upper Elementary
- Grades 4/5
The Tobin Montessori School, in partnership with the Health, Wellness, and Physical Education department, seeks a Physical Education Extended-Term Substitute Teacher (JK-5) for the period of time beginning on February 7, 2026, and lasting until April 14, 2026.
Key ResponsibilitiesReporting directly to the lead teacher for Physical Education and the building principal, the Physical Education ETS is responsible for implementing a movement-based curriculum provided by the Physical Education department for students in grades pre-K-5 that supports their physical, social, and emotional growth. This role prioritizes individual development, coordination, and cooperative play as part of a Montessori-style program. Additional responsibilities include student support (recess, lunch duty, dismissal, etc.)
as needed, staff collaboration, and attending school and department-based meetings.
As the incoming Physical Education Teacher, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree preferred. - Experience and/or education in: elementary physical education, swim development, bicycle safety, and ballroom dancing.
- Successful previous teaching experience in an urban setting is preferred.
- First Aid/CPR/WSI certification is preferred.
- Massachusetts Certification in PreK-8 Physical Education required.
- A love for children and desire to work with elementary aged students.
