Cambridge Chamber Singers (CCS) is a distinguished choral ensemble in Greater Boston, presenting diverse and innovative concert programs that span from classical masterpieces to contemporary compositions. Guided by Musical Director Dr. Raymond Fahrner, the group is known for its creative collaborations and engaging performances. The group has performed works by renowned composers such as Josquin des Prez, Eric Whitacre, and Maurice Duruflé, as well as traditional hymns and spirituals.
CCS has gained recognition, including participation in the WGBH choral competition show “Sing That Thing!” and continues to enrich the choral music community. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, CCS offers engaging musical experiences while fostering community connections.
This is a temporary on-site role, based in Boston, MA, for an Assistant Conductor with the Cambridge Chamber Singers. The Assistant Conductor will collaborate closely with the Musical Director to plan and lead rehearsals, assist in the selection and preparation of repertoire, and provide feedback to choir members.
Working closely with current conductor, Dr. Ray Fahrner:
- Conduct one Thursday evening rehearsal per month, at MIT from 7:15 – 9:45 PM. Music will cover a broad range of unaccompanied American styles, including Billings, Parker, Barber, and jazz. Tentative dates are 1/29, 2/19, 3/19, 4/9, 5/5.
- Conduct parts of two concerts on May 9, 2026 at 8:00 PM and May 10, 2026 at 3:00 PM.
- Potential to conduct additional Thursday night rehearsals as needed, possibly on short notice.
Position open immediately until filled.
Qualifications- Strong conducting skills, rehearsal techniques, and ability to lead a choir of mixed abilities
- Knowledge of diverse choral repertoire, including classical, contemporary, and traditional works
- Musical interpretation skills and experience in vocal techniques and care
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities for working with both the Musical Director and choir members
- Experience with artistic planning, score preparation, and organizational tasks
- A degree in music or equivalent experience is highly preferred
- Previous experience in choral conducting or assisting roles is advantageous
- A passion for fostering an inclusive and dynamic artistic environment
