The Resident Field Engineer provides technical direction and support to subcontractors and crew, interprets design and contract requirements, and ensures work proceeds on schedule.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical direction and interpretation of design drawings and specification requirements.
- Perform fundamental design checks and redesign in the field without supervision.
- Administer commercial direction, interpretation of subcontracts, and discipline‑specific contract requirements.
- Serve as Subcontract Administrator or Procurement Manager.
- Review, maintain records, and respond to Contractor Information Requests (CIRs).
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with technical requirements.
- Monitor discipline construction activities for compliance with the CPM schedule.
- Prepare and issue all discipline extra work authorization requests (RFMPs/WAs) with approval of the Project Field Manager.
- Coordinate with Field Subcontract Administrator as needed.
- Maintain daily logs for site record purposes.
- Complete quantity take‑offs to support construction planning and invoice approval.
- Review all subcontractor progress payment requests for acceptance.
- Monitor supplier daily logs and approve timesheets.
- Compile and maintain Conformed to Construction Records drawing and list markups.
- Direct site document control activities for design documents.
- Assist Field Quality Assurance Manager with inspections and verification of tests.
- Adhere to safety and quality standards appropriate for the level of duties.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and change management associated with implementation of improvements.
- Act as a lead person; does not have management responsibility for people to whom they provide work direction except as assigned.
- Direct other discipline engineers, general foreman, craft personnel, TA’s, and vendor representatives.
- 2 to 6 years of construction management and/or design experience in similar facility construction.
- Previous experience in water/wastewater facility construction (preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program in the USA or an equivalent foreign institution.
- Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor‑vehicle record search).
- PE preferred.
- Lift and carry heavy items up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move, and walk long distances in confined, cluttered places and uneven areas.
- See and hear naturally or with correction.
- Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with job duties.
- Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure.
- Perform repetitive movements.
- Work above 5 feet in height; climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Work up to a 12‑hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outdoor conditions.
