Senior Staff Accountant
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and resourceful Senior Staff Accountant for Accounts Payable to join their dynamic team. This critical role offers the opportunity to oversee daily financial operations, enhance process efficiencies, and contribute to the smooth functioning of a renowned institution. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive attitude, problem‑solving skills, and a desire to improve existing workflows, all while supporting a collaborative environment dedicated to excellence.
Compensation$40.00 per hour
Responsibilities- Manage daily accounting processes including invoice processing, payment requests, and account reconciliation.
- Lead complex month‑end closing activities, ensuring compliance with organizational policies.
- Review and authorize various transactions such as invoices, wire payments, and payments related to human subjects, based on government and institutional guidelines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve rejected direct deposit payments efficiently.
- Collaborate with the Supplier Maintenance Team to ensure accurate classification for tax withholding and participate in year‑end tax filings.
- Address payment‑related inquiries from community members and suppliers, providing timely and professional support.
- Act as a subject matter expert, educating staff and suppliers on AP policies and best practices.
- Assist with internal and external audit preparations, ensuring documentation accuracy.
- Contribute to AP projects, supporting team efforts to optimize workflow and procedures.
- Conduct root‑cause analysis of account issues in partnership with senior staff members to facilitate resolution.
- Provide training on accounting policies and procedures within the organization.
- Analyze AP data, offer insights, and recommend process improvements to management.
- Develop and update AP documentation in collaboration with management.
- Perform other related duties and projects as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
- At least 3 years of experience in financial operations, including accounting and reconciliation tasks.
- Proven experience delivering excellent customer service.
- Strong familiarity with accounting software, ideally SAP.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and federal regulations related to accounts payable.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities under strict deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Self‑motivated with a proactive approach, judgment, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Team‑oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively and provide value‑added support.
- Capacity to assess inquiries critically and determine appropriate escalation procedures.
