Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for the position of Substitute Custodian. The position involves school and office cleaning work, completion of minor maintenance tasks, and groundskeeping. The incumbent must be a team player who takes ownership of responsibilities and works to ensure a clean and safe building.

• Perform daily duties assigned per shift schedule, including, but not limited to: scrubbing and cleaning restrooms (including toilet bowls, sinks, floors, walls, bathroom partitions, and આરોપ cans), trash removal, vacuuming, refilling dispensers for soap, towels, and tissues.
• Inspect and perform other tasks as needed: dust, scrub, strip and wax hard surface floors as needed, burnish, shampoo and dry carpeted surfaces, wash windows and furniture, wash fixtures, empty pencil sharpeners, remove high dust, damp mop, wet mop, spot mop, and otherwise provide all housekeeping services to maintain a clean, well‑maintained building.
• Monitor level of cleaning supplies and fill as needed.
• Report building/system deficiencies to head custodian.
• Perform minor maintenance and repair tasks as required (e.g., change light bulbs, change air filters, painting, etc.).
• Provide routine maintenance and inspections of gp, roof drains, playground equipment, and emergency lights.
• Perform grounds‑related tasks to keep facilities presentable and safe, including, but not limited to, snow and ice removal from sidewalks, policing grounds for trash, power washing exterior walls, and monthly inspections of fences and gates.
• Secure building at end of shift: lock all doors, activate alarm system, turn on required security lights, etc.
• Assist with moving and transporting furniture, equipment, boxed textbooks, athletic equipment, and other supplies weighing up to 75 pounds either manually or with mechanical assistance.
• Assist the building principal, teachers, and students in tasks as needed to provide the best environment for learning.
• Assist with special custodial and maintenance projects as needed.
• This position reports directly to the head custodian at the work location.
• Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the classification and as directed by the head custodian.

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to work, regardless of weather conditions.
• Knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment, heating systems, principles of electricity and mechanics.
