There are 12 schools: two high schools, a career and technology center, two middle schools, six elementary schools and a pre-kindergarten through 8th grade school. There are approximately 5000 students in the district. High schools offer a full College preparatory curriculum as well as options in occupational skills. The Dorchester Career and Technology Center receives students from both high schools and offers programs in Culinary Arts, Masonry, Carpentry, Electricity, HVAC, Collision Repair and Refinishing, Welding, Agriculture, Medium and Heavy Truck, Auto Technology, Cosmetology, Homeland Security, Cisco Academy, Interactive Media Production, Teacher Academy and Medical Services.
IBM-compatible computers are used throughout the system in individual classrooms as well as strategically placed computer labs. There are courses in Technology Simulations, Keyboarding, Computer Applications, and Computerized Accounting. Every classroom has access to the Microsoft Office Products as well as to the Internet. The Dual Enrollment Program with Chesapeake College and University of Maryland Eastern Shore offers the opportunity for the students who wish to get started on their college credits.
Family Support Services Resource Center for Families and Schools is designed to support children with disabilities from birth to 21. The center provides the skills and knowledge to enable families and children to understand the Special Education process.
DUTIES
- Performs assigned tasks in designated areas related to the operation of successful food service program within the school.
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of a variety of foods using standardized recipes and menus, portion controls, and in accordance with work production standards.
- Sets up food on serving lines and/or steam tables, serve meals or meal components.
- Washes, sanitizes, and stores equipment and supplies; scrubs tables, counters, chairs, small wares, and disposes of waste properly.
- Operates and cleans all food service equipment.
- Stores food and supplies in accordance with instructions, and assists with ordering and taking inventory.
- Perform other duties as required by the Cafeteria Manager.
- Education requirement: high school diploma or GED.
- A minimum of one (1) year of food service experience; school based experience preferred.
- Completion of a sanitation course in food service preferred.
- Basic knowledge of recipes and food service equipment.
- Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal direction.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates a positive, cooperative attitude.
- Able to lift minimum of 35 lbs.
- Ability to withstand variations in temperature (0 degrees in walk-in freezers to 85 degrees in cooking area).
- Ability to climb a small ladder or step stool as well as stand for extended periods of time.
Dorchester County Public Schools does participate in the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act. The Maryland Healthy Working Families Act (MHWFA) requires Dorchester County Public Schools to provide one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours that an employee works, subject to the provisions of the Act. The paid sick leave is paid out each month during the school year.
