Job Profile
As the French Language Services staff lead, the Francophone Support Worker serves an older adult population under the direction of the Community Support Services Coordinator and works in partnership with members of the Day Program, Friendly Visiting and Recreation staff teams to provide social recreational programs and system navigation supports to adult members of the Francophone community living in Cambridge and within Waterloo Region and Wellington County
What you will be doing
Provide programs and services in French and English.Research, develop, plan and deliver current and new innovative social recreational programs in French and English.Support Francophone community members and non-French speaking staff and participants to engage and interact with one another.Provide information and assist Francophone residents and their caregivers to learn about and connect with the variety of City and other community based programs and services available to them in both French and English.Travel across Waterloo Region and Wellington County to meet Francophone members in community settings and their homes.Liaises and networks with other Francophone service providers and staff, key groups and partners within the Francophone community to identify service needs, gaps and look for unique ways to expand and address them on an individual client basis and as a community as a whole.Collaborates with Programmers and other program staff to plan programs and activities to meet the physical, psychological, social, spiritual and unique cultural needs of Francophone clients.Assist with the recruitment, interviewing, screening, mentoring, and assessment of Francophone students, and volunteers in the Day Programs and Without Walls project.Purchase supplies, organizes, prepares and leads or demonstrates activities, baking/cooking, games, music and art and craft programs.Maintain a safe and clean work area, including the set up and cleaning of tables, chairs and audio visual equipment and program supplies.Lead exercise classes in both French & English.Assist clients to participate in aqua fit classes as avaliable.Conduct and document assessments, care and service plansObserve, assess, record and report changes in client behaviour and health. Inform family members, caregivers and Care Coordinators of changing needs and circumstances of Francophone clients attending programs and social activities.Assist with the plating, preparation and serving of meals, and snacks.Provide toileting assistance including personal care or hygiene and feeding assistance as required by participants which maintains their dignity as required by participants.Use specialized training techniques such as Gentle Persuasive Approach, PIECES, and U First when working with individuals with cognitive and developmental challenges.Assist with medical or other emergencies to ensure the safety of participants in the programs.Education
College diploma in recreation/leisure or activation studies; or gerontology; or other equivalent field of study offering training in care coordination or quality of life planning with a certificate in recreation programming/ therapy or gerontology.
French-language competency equivalent to a Secondary School ( Grade 12) French Language School Board diploma or French Language testing equivalent to DELF Level B2 or higher.
Language
Bilingual in English and French. Must be fluent in spoken, written & comprehension.
Experience and Knowledge
One to Two years of experience planning and implementing a variety of social and recreational activities for frail older adults and/or adults with cognitive or developmental disabilities in a French or English language environment.
