Job Title: Substitute Principal
Reports To: Superintendent / Principal
Location: Camas School District
Employment Type: Temporary / As Needed
Salary: $358 for full day/ $228 for half day
Position Summary
The Substitute Principal serves as the acting school leader in the absence of the building principal. This role ensures continuity of school operations, supports staff, maintains a safe and productive learning environment, and upholds district policies and procedures. The Substitute Principal works collaboratively with teachers, support staff, students, and families to foster a positive school climate and promote student achievement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight of daily school operations, including student supervision, staff management, and schedule adherence.
- Support instructional programs by visiting classrooms, assisting teachers, and ensuring lessons align with district standards.
- Maintain discipline by enforcing school policies and addressing student behavior in a fair and consistent manner.
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, and parents regarding school matters and concerns.
- Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure continuity of initiatives, programs, and events.
- Manage emergencies, safety drills, and crisis situations according to district protocols.
- Complete required reports and documentation in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field.
- Valid Washington State administrator/principal certification.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of successful teaching or educational leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of instructional practices, curriculum standards, and school operations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Leadership and decision-making skills.
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.
- Cultural competency and commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to build positive relationships.
- Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic situations.

- Mobility: Moves throughout the school building frequently (standing, walking, occasionally running as needed to support students and activities).
- Material Handling: Moves or lifts students or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs occasionally, as necessary to meet student safety or instructional needs.
- Body Positioning: Stoops, bends, or otherwise changes posture as required to assist students or access materials.
- Environment: Works comfortably amid typical school noise, activity, or crowd levels (e.g., in classrooms, hallways, during transitions).
- Travel: Travels occasionally between schools or district facilities for meetings or events.
- After-Hours Availability: Participates in evening and weekend school events when scheduled.

- Environment: Works primarily indoors in classrooms, offices, and common areas; occasionally outdoors for student supervision, transitions, or events.
- Noise/Activity Level: Exposed to typical school noise and activity levels, including crowded hallways, lunchrooms, and assemblies.
- Temperature/Climate: Encounters varied temperatures when moving between indoor and outdoor settings or in less-controlled spaces (e.g., gymnasiums, playgrounds).
- Hazards: May occasionally work near cleaning supplies, office equipment, or minor physical hazards typical of a school setting (e.g., slippery floors, tripping hazards).
- Schedules: Subject to changes in daily or weekly schedules to meet student or building needs.
