Job Summary
Pet Smart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role also shares responsibility for store cleanliness, maintenance, pet safety standards, and the direct care of pets within our store.
Job Responsibilities
- Engage with pet parents in person, over the phone, at the register, and online to ensure positive outcomes.
- Greet pet parents and answer their questions throughout the store.
- Prepare online orders for pick-up, ensuring a smooth experience.
- Care for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats.
- Maintain store cleanliness standards.
- Support weekly price updates and promotional pricing.
- Stage and sort new products to match sales floor plans.
- Replenish and recover products to meet standards.
- Recommend, inform, and sell merchandise, services, and live pets.
- Administer store-owned pet medications as directed by a veterinarian.
- Promote events like adoption weekends, charity events, and loyalty programs.
- Ensure a safe environment for staff, pets, and customers.
- Act immediately if a sick or injured pet is identified, including transport to the vet.
- Assist in various store areas as needed, other duties may be assigned.

- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to react under pressure and stay calm.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and handle objects; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Vision requirements include depth perception.
- Frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds; occasionally team lift over 100 pounds.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, pet hair, and moderate noise; possible exposure to live animals.
