Wage band range $40.00-$52.00 hour; however, starting pay is ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity. Position is eligible to test for a bilingual pay incentive.
Under the administrative direction of the Health Clinic Manager, the Registered Nurse provides safe, efficient, and therapeutic nursing care to youth and their families. This role supports the health, well‑being, and continuity of care for clients within the program. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (illustrated by typical activities) Clinical Care- Provide effective, efficient, and developmentally appropriate nursing care.
- Ensure a safe, therapeutic environment that respects all patients’ rights.
- Safely prepare, administer, document, and monitor the effects of medications.
- Conduct thorough intake and elopement assessments; document and communicate findings promptly.
- Assess and respond appropriately to illness or injury in youth.
- Implement nursing interventions based on assessment findings and standing orders.
- Assist with pre‑intake procedures and orientation for youth, parents, and guardians.
- Oversee the consent process for psychotropic medications.
- Provide clinical oversight and guidance to LVNs.
- Act as a liaison for the Camino a Casa Program.
- Respond effectively to crisis situations.
- Utilize therapeutic interventions to de‑escalate anxious or acting‑out youth.
- Participate in patient rounds, treatment team meetings, staff meetings, and committees as assigned.
- Collaborate with the Health Services Team and broader treatment team, including clinicians, direct care staff, education services, community providers, and family members, in accordance with legal guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all personnel, operational, and client‑related information.
- Ensure annual client care minute goals are met.
- Complete, sign, and date all mental health progress notes within 72 hours of service.
- Assist with medication order processing, refills, audits, and assigned projects.
- Assist with health education for youth, families, and staff.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license; BSN preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of full‑time experience as an RN.
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with children or adolescents.
- Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
- Strong understanding of child and adolescent behavior.
- Experience in behavioral health highly preferred.
- Familiarity with psychotropic medications preferred.
- Working knowledge of Trauma‑Informed Care and ability to articulate its principles.
- Self‑directed, organized, detail‑oriented, and able to problem‑solve independently.
- Strong communication skills with clients, families, and colleagues.
- Valid California Registered Nurse License.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Language Skills
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and policy/procedure manuals.
- Ability to write clear, concise nursing notes, documentation, and routine correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively by email with parents, guardians, and providers.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic and drug dosage calculations.
- Ability to think critically, identify and analyze problems, gather information, evaluate solutions, collaborate effectively, and implement appropriate actions.
