Under immediate supervision (Crime Analyst I), general supervision (Crime Analyst II), performs crime analysis work in support of law enforcement activities and performs related duties as required.
Crime Analyst I is the entry‑level classification in this series. Incumbents perform routine assignments that require the application of basic data research and analysis principles.
Crime Analyst II is the journey‑level classification in this series. Incumbents perform complex technical assignments requiring professional knowledge and skills in conducting data research and analysis projects, formulating recommendations, and communicating findings effectively, and are expected to exercise independent judgment working within established systems.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a crime analysis unit analyzing crime statistics and providing intelligence information for a law enforcement agency.
Compensation & Benefits- A general salary increase of 3.5% effective December 20, 2026 and December 19, 2027.
- Merit Increases – New employees are eligible for an initial 5% merit increase within the pay range after 1,040 hours (≈6 months) of satisfactory work; subsequent merit increases after each additional 2,080 hours (≈1 year).
- Educational Incentive – 2.5% for an associate degree, 3.5% for a bachelor’s degree, 5% for a graduate degree.
- Bilingual Incentive – $.69 per hour (Level I), $1.00 per hour (Level II), $1.32 per hour (Level III).
- Flexible Workweek/Telework Schedule – Compressed work (9/80, 4/10) and remote hybrid telework schedules for some positions.
- Vacation Accrual – New full‑time employees accrue ~14 days per year for the first 10,400 hours or 5 years of service; accruals increase at 5, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 20 years of service, topping out at 26 days a year and 400 vacation hours banked.
- Vacation Leave Redemption – After 14,560 hours of continuous service an employee may redeem up to 80 hours of vacation accrued in the same year after using 80 hours in the preceding 12 months.
- Sick Leave – Full‑time employees accrue 3.08 hours per bi‑weekly pay period; 40.04 hours at hire, balanced after 13 bi‑weekly periods.
- Deferred Compensation – Eligible to participate in the County’s 401(k) Shared Savings Plan and/or Section 457 Plan; up to 3.00% match on 401(k) contributions.
- Health Plans – Full‑time employees receive a flexible credit allowance up to $26,626.96 annually to offset medical, dental, and vision insurance costs for you and your dependents. Options include:
- Employee only – $463.99 per biweekly pay period
- Employee plus one dependent – $834.32 per biweekly pay period
- Employee plus family – $1,024.11 per biweekly pay period
- Flexible Spending Accounts – Pre‑tax benefit toward eligible medical, dental, vision or dependent care expenses.
- Pension Plan – Participation in the County’s defined pension plan, reciprocal with CalPERS.
- Holidays – 13 paid days per year, including a floating holiday.
- Additional Benefits – Tuition reimbursement, disability plans, employee assistance program, life insurance, wellness program.
Crime Analyst I: $35.17 – $46.55 per hour.
Crime Analyst II: $40.31 – $53.43 per hour.
Crime Analysts are represented by Service Employees’ International Union (SEIU) and are eligible for overtime compensation.

Duties- Collect, compile, compute, analyze and summarize crimes, persons, demographic and related data from a variety of sources.
- Identify crime patterns and present findings orally and in writing to police personnel to aid in resource allocation.
- Prepare reports for investigations and intelligence assessments.
- Prepare graphic displays (charts, maps, calendars) to present statistical data; attend meetings and briefings.
