Software Engineer – Defense / Electronic Warfare Systems

Full-Time, Onsite
Salary Range: $115,000 – $120,000
A long-standing defense contractor supporting Naval Air mission planning, ELINT, and Electronic Warfare (EW) programs is seeking a Software Engineer (System Software – Journeyman Level) to join its growing team at Point Mugu. This role provides long-term stability, strong benefits, and opportunities for career advancement.
Responsibilities- Research, design, develop, and test operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software.
- Support aerospace, scientific, communications, and general computing applications.
- Develop embedded systems software and define operational specifications.
- Apply principles of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis.
- Work onsite with government personnel to support program objectives.
- Identify system requirements and provide clear technical direction to OEMs.
- Support EW systems including APR‑39, ALR‑67, and ALQ‑214 through analysis, testing, and evaluation.
- Review and contribute to OEM Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP), including onsite witnessing.
- Test and validate Operational Flight Programs (OFPs) and Mission Data Files.
- Lead test planning, resource identification, execution, and reporting.
- Document defects through the appropriate defect management tools.
- Conduct Engineering Review Boards (ERBs) at the conclusion of each test segment.
- Prepare and update technical documentation: system requirements, design specifications, white papers, and engineering notes.
- Participate in milestone reviews, status meetings, design reviews, and technical teleconferences.
- Host and facilitate technical discussions as needed.
- Minimum 3 years performing similar systems/software engineering duties.
- Experience with Visual Studio, C++, C#, Microsoft Active
X, and Python. - Proficiency with both Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and SharePoint.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related technical discipline.
- Acceptable substitutions:
- 6 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree, or
- 4 additional years with a relevant associate degree.
- Active DoD Secret Clearance required at time of application.
- Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
