Coordinator of Inclusive Student Services Center

California State University Channel Islands

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Promote an inclusive culture of student success while providing inspiration, role modeling, vision, direction, community, and academic support needed for students to achieve personal and professional goals.
  • Coordinate the activities and programs of the Inclusive Student Services Center with approximate time allocations:
    • Lead Work and Supervision – 40%:
      Support and facilitate a sense of community among students who identify as Asian American & Pacific Islanders, Native American, LGBTQ+, Assembly Bill (AB) 540, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA), undocumented students, and other populations.
    • Program Development, Oversight, and Assessment – 30%:
      Oversee ISS Center operations, programming, and student staff; facilitate leadership development and cross‑cultural learning; develop and evaluate campus‑wide programs that raise awareness of social justice, institutional racism, power and privilege, oppression, and cultural and ethnic identity.
    • Campus Resources and Outreach Support – 25%:
      Promote collaboration between the ISS Center and other student services units; facilitate student‑faculty engagement and represent the ISS Center on university committees.
    • Budget Oversight and Associated Students Interface – 5%:
      Track and oversee budgets for the ISS Center, interface with Associated Students and other budgetary leads, and maintain relationships with student‑governed ASI programs.
  • Provide day‑to‑day oversight of ISS Center student staff, mentoring and academic support for sensitive and complex student issues.
  • Serve as a resource for implementing solutions for students facing sensitive, complex difficulties related to underrepresented status, including counseling and referral to campus resources as needed.
  • Actively participate on university committees to foster an institutional climate supportive of student success.
Requirements of Position
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Psychology, Communication, Minority Studies, Social Work, Outreach, Education, or a related field required. Undergraduate upper‑division or graduate coursework in a related field preferred. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: At least three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. Experience supporting the success and engagement of Asian American & Pacific Islanders, Native American, LGBTQ+, Assembly Bill (AB) 540, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA), or undocumented students is preferred. A master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Other Skills/Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of challenges faced by historically under‑represented and/or first‑generation students; ability to foster a campus climate broadly supportive of all students, especially those from historically underrepresented populations. Effective interpersonal and communication skills with a pronounced sensitivity to diverse student needs. Proven ability to create an inclusive and welcoming campus environment. General knowledge of individual and group behavior principles.

    Proficiency in student affairs field practices, policies, procedures, and organizational activities of the campus. Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to analyze complex situations, determine appropriate courses of action, and provide effective presentations.
  • Availability: Must be available to work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; flexible scheduling may be required, including occasional evening or weekend service with advance notice. Occasional travel may be required.
  • Background Check: A background check, including a criminal records check, must be satisfactorily completed before any candidate can be offered a position with CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect application status or continued employment.
  • Campus Security Authority: The person holding this position is considered a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Campus Security Act and must provide reports regarding Clery crimes for which they become aware to the designated campus authority.
  • Mandated Reporter: The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083, revised July 21, 2017.
Hiring Salary

$5,540 per month
