General FunctionThe Optometric Technician creates exceptional value by delivering the Lens Crafters Experience. You will ensure patients receive the highest quality optometric care and help link the doctor and retail functions for flawless execution of the patient experience.
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Display a professional image and greet patients promptly with a smile
- Answer the telephone in a friendly and courteous manner
- Assist the optometrist in eye examinations, obtaining medical history and preparing patients for exams
- Perform tests to aid accurate diagnosis and treatment, asking open‑ended questions about relevance to the patient
- Review prescriptions and patient information carefully and consult with staff when necessary
- Show patience and courtesy to indecisive or difficult customers/patients
- Perform work accurately and thoroughly despite time pressure and patient volume
- Identify situations involving unsatisfied patients and act quickly for effective resolution
- Demonstrate knowledge of appointment book/scheduling procedures and computer operation
- Handle and file all patient records in an organized manner in accordance with HIPAA
- Support exam retention through NEE calls, 24‑hour confirmation calls, and no‑show callbacks
- Place contact lens trial orders, maintain a neat contact lens room, and ensure no expired contacts
- Use the CIAO system to input customer/patient data, insurance information, and eye‑care services accurately
- Maintain a safe working environment for all associates, customers and patients
- Support visual merchandising compliance in exam lanes, assessment room and contact lens area
- Adapt to various examination scenarios and remain personable with patients and staff
- Perform all pre‑examination testing with accuracy and explain measurements to patients
- Provide coaching and guidance to patients about contact‑lens care and handling
- Maintain and disinfect equipment and provide clinical support to the optometrist as needed
- Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies and contact lenses in exam rooms
- Support retail as capacity and patient demand allow
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Minimum one year of strong customer‑service skills (internal or external)
- Leadership, strong communication, and active listening skills
- Problem‑solving, organizational, and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to assess priorities and manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment
- Ability to work autonomously and possess office‑environment knowledge
- Strong basic math skills
- Experience in retail and/or optical settings
- Experience in healthcare settings
