Job Summary
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Transportation, this position involves driving a school bus to safely transport students, performing routine safety inspections, and maintaining order and discipline on the bus and at stops.
Responsibilities- Assist students and passengers in safe loading and unloading from the bus, including normal transport and emergency situations; safely transport medically fragile students and students with special needs.
- Communicate with district personnel, parents, and legal guardians to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns; respond to inquiries from students, parents, and staff regarding transportation services.
- Conduct required daily safety inspections of the bus—inspecting interior, exterior, and engine—to assure safe operational condition; report mechanical malfunctions or other problems and maintain related maintenance records.
- Determine appropriate action in emergency situations according to established guidelines; administer first aid to passengers as needed.
- Drive a school bus along a designated route, picking up and discharging students in accordance with time schedules; observe legal and defensive driving and comply with applicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes, and regulations.
- Maintain buses in a clean and safe operating condition; wash, sweep, and clean buses; refuel, service, and prepare vehicle for operation.
- Maintain order and discipline among passengers on the bus and while waiting at bus stops in accordance with student discipline policies; advise students and others of appropriate behavior.
- Prepare related logs and reports as necessary—including pre‑trip, field‑trip, accident, passenger‑incident, and inspection reports; maintain route, passenger misconduct, mileage, and student‑count records.
- Transport students, faculty, and parents on field trips or other events; meet scheduled departure and arrival times as assigned.
- Utilize two‑way radios for bus‑to‑bus and bus‑to‑base communications.
- High‑school graduation or equivalent GED and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.
- Successful passage of the District’s job‑related proficiency test.
- California School Bus Driver’s Certificate.
- Valid California Class B Driver License with P/S endorsements.
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency.
- Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
- K‑4 report issued within the last 30 days (online documents are not accepted).
- Safe and defensive driving practices.
- Proper operations of school buses.
- Applicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes, and regulations.
- Basic first aid, CPR & AED procedures.
- Basic record‑keeping techniques.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Health and safety regulations.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Drive a school bus safely and efficiently.
- Learn and apply policies and procedures related to student discipline on buses.
- Maintain a safe discipline level among passengers.
- Observe legal and defensive driving practices.
- Learn and follow designated routes.
- Maintain bus in clean and proper working condition.
- Conduct safety inspections and perform routine preventive maintenance.
- Administer first aid.

All new hires are being offered advanced step salary placement to Step C: $25.50/hour. These positions are 5–6 hours/day (split shift) during the school year; 206 paid days. Applications will be accepted on a continual basis.
