This position is responsible for operating a gas or diesel bus on routes for a transit agency and to observe state and city speed regulations, safety regulations and policies, as well as providing excellent customer service to the passengers the agency serves.

KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

:

• Knowledge of the techniques of driving a passenger bus and a specialized transit vehicle.
• Knowledge of all safety procedures and requirements.
• Knowledge of the layout of the City of Rome, including street names, major shopping center or stores, public facilities (such as hospitals, schools, etc.), and other points of interest to passengers.
• Knowledge of relevant city and departmental rules and regulations.
• Skill in oral communication.
• Skill in record keeping.
• Skill in defensive driving techniques.
• Skill in operating a bus, two-way radio, fare box, destination signs, chairlift, flares, etc.
• Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according work schedule.
• Ability to lift heavy objects.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
• Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must maintain a valid driver’s license and possess or have the ability to readily obtain and maintain a valid Class B commercial driver’s license with a Passenger Endorsement (CDL/BP). Non-License holders will have 30 days to complete the written examination and 120 days to complete the driving exam for license requirements.
• Candidates must pass a substance abuse screening and those receiving conditional offer of employment must pass a medical examination, as required by the Department of Transportation.
• Must obtain National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) 100 and 700 within three (3) months of employment.
