FITNESS INSTRUCTOR – HOMESCHOOL PE

DEFINITION
This position will plan, execute and instruct the Homeschool PE class, however this class is open to all students. Homeschool PE is held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:30-3:00 pm at the Rec Plex. The instructor leads the class of 8-14 year-olds in various fitness and sports activities to promote physical, social, and mental development. The class is held in two sessions throughout the year;
Fall (September-Mid-December) and Spring (January-April).
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from the Assistant Parks & Recreation Director and upper management.

Essential Functions

- Manage and participate in the development and implementation of the assigned programs.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the programs.
- Must have acceptable attendance and the ability to work well with people.
- Safety for oneself and others of a primary responsibility of every employee.
- Any specific requirements that are stated in the “offer of employment” letter.
- Promote and inclusive environment for all program participants.
- Maintain professionalism at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of

Principle and practices of the program.
Rules and regulations associated with the recreational activity.

Conduct the fitness program professionally.
Experience and Training Guidelines
:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience
:
Must have at a minimum three months (25 hours) in a specialized interest or skill such as:
Instructing, instructor shadowing, team teaching and volunteering in the specialized field.
Training
:
Required within three months (90) days of employment to possess a related, accredited and accepted Group Fitness Instructor (GFI) or Group Exercise Certification (GEI) certification.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Environmental Conditions
:
Primarily an indoor environment.
Physical Conditions
:
Must maintain physical shape to instruct in the specialized field.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
:
Possession of a valid American Red Cross CPR/AED certificate, American Heart Association certificate or ASHI CPR/AED certificate and First Aid certifications.
