Location:

Hayward, Eureka, Geyserville, Lincoln, Lodi, Merced, Paso Robles, Petaluma, Richmond, Santa Rosa, Willits. Work is onsite within PG&E’s service territory.

This position is a DOT-covered classification and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening. It may also be subject to JATC review and approval. Provisional hires are required to complete a provisional training plan within one year.

Job Responsibilities

Journey Lineworker:

  • Travel to various job locations within the assigned region.
  • Review work requirements, load/unload tools and materials, and assist crew members.
  • Carry and install insulators, cross‑arms, and other equipment.
  • Climb poles using boot hooks or aerial lifts.
  • Test, frame, set, and anchor poles, string lines, and install cross‑arms.
  • Perform substation switching and install equipment, meters, and streetlights.
  • Hang and energize transformers and take voltage readings.
  • Troubleshoot problems and determine extent of repairs on overhead or underground lines.
  • Operate hydraulic equipment, lift equipment, and forklift to move work materials.
  • Travel by vehicle, motor boat, or off‑road utility vehicle to access job sites.
  • Drive a Class A vehicle to and from the job site, and conduct daily vehicle inspections.
  • Provide back‑up relief in the temporary absence of the crew lead and lead other crew members.
  • Attend all mandated OSHA and company training and provide on‑the‑job training to apprentices.

Compliance Inspector:

  • Plan routes, inspect safety of company vehicle, and drive on designated inspection routes.
  • Inspect overhead and underground distribution facilities, including manholes, vaults, and confined spaces.
  • Use hand tools to access conductors, unlock manhole covers, and perform minor repairs.
  • Locate buried facilities with metal detectors and infrared sensors.
  • Communicate findings and proposed solutions to supervisors and stakeholders.
  • Document work performed, record site locations, and maintain repair logs.
  • Attend daily tailboard meetings and use hand‑held computers with GPS and digital cameras.
  • Perform journey‑level line work safely without assistance where possible.
Qualifications (Minimum)
  • Completion of a federal or state‑sanctioned lineworker apprenticeship and supporting documentation.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Valid California Class A driving permit by first day of employment.
  • Passed California DMV medical exam by first day of employment.
  • Ability to wear company‑provided PPE.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work and drive in all weather and road conditions.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to travel and transfer to a new headquarters upon request across the entire PG&E service territory.
  • Provisional hires must complete the provisional training plan within one year.
Desired
  • Two years of Journey Lineworker experience if an outside line apprenticeship was completed.
  • Completion of a lineworker apprenticeship from a utility (preferred).
  • >
    Journey Lineworker experience.
  • Experience with rubber gloving and hot‑stick procedures.
  • Experience in transmission and distribution work, including underground and multiple voltages.
  • Effective team player with strong communication skills.
Pre‑Employment Testing
  • Post‑Offer Physical Assessment for Lineworkers.
  • Journey Assessment of Lineworker Progression.
Compensation

Hourly rate: $73.78 per hour, based on locality and collective bargaining agreements.

Additional Information

PG&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. The position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases.
