Oaks Christian School Job Description Campus Supervisor / School Security Officer

Full-Time (12-month), Non-Exempt, Category 4

Salary Range: $25.00-$32.00 per hour

The Campus Supervisor / School Security Officer is one of three layers of security at Oaks Christian School. This position requires full attention, commitment, and dedication to the safety and well‑being of the school community while upholding the mission and values of Oaks Christian School.

Campus Supervisors / SSOs provide visible, proactive security across the Middle and High School campuses, dorms, athletic facilities, and learning centers. The role includes close collaboration with the Office of Student Life, student supervision, facility monitoring, and response to emergencies. Officers are required to accurately document incidents, as reports may carry legal, evidential, and historical significance.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must read and adhere to the Oaks Christian Statement of Faith.
  • Must pass state and federal Live Scan background checks.
  • Must maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Licensing / Certification (one of the following, depending on employment classification):
  • BSIS Pathway (Private Security Officers)
    • Valid California Guard Card (BSIS Security Guard Registration).
    • Completion of SB 1626 School Security Officer Training (24-hour course, per Business & Professions Code §7583.45).
    • Compliance with BSIS continuing education: 32 hours within the first 6 months and 8 hours annually.
    • BSIS Exposed Firearm Permit (if assigned to armed duties).
  • POST Pathway (Sworn Peace Officers / School Police)
    • Must hold California POST Basic Certificate (Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training).
    • Maintains authority under California Penal Code §830 (peace officer powers).
    • Firearm authority and continuing training requirements governed by POST standards and the employing agency.
Responsibilities:
  • Serve in your spiritual gift(s) and support Oaks Christian School’s Christ-centered mission.
  • Supervise students during school hours, passing periods, lunch breaks, after school, and at special events.
  • Partner with the Office of Student Life to address safety issues, assist with student behavior management, and monitor detention when required.
  • Prevent unsafe student behavior; respond to and document violations of school rules and guidelines.
  • Monitor security cameras and review footage upon administrative request.
  • Maintain visible patrols of classrooms, dorms, parking lots, athletic venues, and other school facilities.
  • Report safety hazards, facility issues, and suspicious activity promptly.
  • Respond to emergencies including fire, earthquake, severe weather, medical incidents, and lockdown scenarios.
  • Collaborate effectively with administrators, faculty/staff, contracted AUS and Pacific Platinum officers, and fellow Campus Supervisors.
  • Assist with arrival/dismissal traffic control and pedestrian safety.
  • Administer first aid/CPR when needed.
  • Provide security presence and logistical support for evening/weekend events.
  • Maintain professionalism and a welcoming presence with students, staff, parents, and visitors.
  • Accurately draft reports of incidents, student interactions, and security observations.
  • Supervise study halls or classrooms as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the Director of Campus Safety or administration.
Physical Abilities:
  • Ability to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb stairs, slopes, ladders, and patrol uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Capability to operate school vehicles and golf carts for patrol/transport.
  • Visual and auditory capacity to monitor students, communicate effectively, and respond to emergencies.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and under stressful circumstances.
Employment

Conditions:
  • Standard 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday; hours determined by the supervisor.
  • Must be available for overtime and special event assignments.
  • Required attendance at faculty and staff training sessions.
