Summary

The Geotechnician position is an entry-level opportunity to join a small, supportive exploration team working in the historic Keno Hill Silver District. Reporting to the Exploration Manager or designate, you will support day‑to‑day core shack activities, including core handling, basic geotechnical logging, and general tasks. This role helps the exploration team work safely and efficiently, with full training provided.

About Us

The Keno Hill mine, located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory, is one of the highest‑grade silver districts in the world. It sits 350 km north of Whitehorse, within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na‑Cho Nyak Dun. The mine covers 242 km², contains numerous mineral deposits, and more than 35 historical past‑producing mine sites. Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, owns and operates the site.

Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history of producing precious metals and has earned numerous safety and environmental awards.

Role Expectations
  • Work safely every day by following site rules and using protective equipment.
  • Help with core cutting, sampling, and basic data collection (training provided).
  • Work alongside geologists and teammates to keep the core shack running smoothly.
  • Keep the work area organized and alert teammates when supplies are running low.
  • Follow instructions and ask questions when unsure.
  • Be part of a supportive team that looks out for one another.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Promote and practice a strong environmental culture.
  • Foster a strong safety culture by exemplifying safe work practices.

Qualifications
  • High school/GED or higher.
  • No previous experience required (training will be provided).
  • Able to lift up to 23 kg.
  • Reliable, motivated, and willing to learn.
  • Positive attitude toward safety, the environment, and teamwork.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
  • Pre‑employment testing (drug & alcohol, blood lead, and audiogram).
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Clean driver’s abstract.
Safety, Health, Environmental Responsibilities
  • Comply with all necessary safety and environmental requirements.
  • Ensure the safety and health of oneself and others by taking due care.
  • Follow environmental requirements and maintain compliance integrity.
  • Report all spills according to spill reporting procedures.
  • Identify, eliminate, and report hazards promptly.
  • Report incidents and accidents promptly.
  • Disclose all incident information and cooperate in investigations.
  • Assist in resolving health and safety matters timely.
  • Use and maintain PPE.
  • Suggest improvements to work processes.
  • Support management in achieving safety targets.
  • Ensure plant and equipment operate within safe limits.
  • Use correct equipment for the job.
  • Participate in risk assessment methodology.
  • Participate in safety initiatives.
  • Receive training and instruction as required.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards.
Work Environment

Employees will be regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including snow and ice, and temperatures ranging from extremely cold to warm. The work environment may involve contact with potentially hazardous wildlife, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock and vibration. Noise levels can occasionally be loud, depending on the task or location on site.

Work Location & Schedule

This is a fly‑in fly‑out position based at a remote mining camp, operating on a rotational schedule of 14 days on and 14 days off. Camp accommodations and meals are provided while on site. All travel to and from the mine site is arranged through a designated travel agency and coordinated from approved flight hubs. We are primarily seeking candidates who reside in the Yukon, British Columbia, and Alberta, particularly near major transportation centers within these regions.
