About the Role
The Sales Development Representative, Sports & Specialty Retail Focus, drives new business development within sports nutrition retailers, specialty supplement stores, fitness centers, and athletic performance channels. This role focuses on identifying retail partners, qualifying opportunities for Tru Niagen placement, and supporting growth in the sports performance and active lifestyle markets. The ideal candidate will combine retail industry knowledge with strong prospecting skills and understand the business needs of specialty retailers and the performance benefits of NAD+ supplementation for active consumers.
responsibilities
- Retail Prospecting & Channel Development:
Identify and research sports team nutritionists, dietitians, health/fitness shops, natural grocer retailers, and professional athletes - Execute outreach campaigns targeting store owners, buyers, and category managers through phone, email, and in-person visits
- Qualify retail prospects based on store demographics, product mix compatibility, and purchasing volume potential
- Generate 12-18 qualified retail opportunities monthly for the account management team
- Maintain an active pipeline of 150+ retail prospects across various specialty channels
- Product Positioning &
Education:
Communicate Tru Niagen unique value proposition for active consumers and athletes - Conduct initial product education sessions highlighting NAD+ benefits for energy, recovery, and cellular health
- Coordinate product sampling programs and point-of-sale material distribution
- Support retailer attendance at trade shows, product training sessions, and educational webinars
- Collaborate with marketing on retail-specific promotional campaigns and merchandising support
- Market Intelligence & Relationship Building:
Build relationships with store managers, buyers, and key decision-makers in specialty retail channels - Track competitive activity, pricing strategies, and promotional trends in sports nutrition retail
- Maintain prospect profiles including store size, customer demographics, and purchasing patterns
- Utilize CRM and sales tools to document interactions and progression of opportunities
- Provide feedback to product and marketing teams on retail market needs and consumer trends
- 2-3 years of experience in retail sales, CPG sales, sports nutrition, or B2B prospecting within retail channels
- Understanding of specialty retail operations, buying cycles, and merchandising requirements
- Experience with supplement retail, sports nutrition, or fitness industry strongly preferred
- Proven track record in prospecting, lead qualification, and pipeline management
- Familiarity with CRM systems, sales engagement platforms, and retail industry databases
- Strong presentation and communication skills for retail owners and buyers
- Entrepreneurial mindset with understanding of independent retail business challenges
- Results-driven, able to work in a fast-paced, target-driven environment
- Strong analytical skills to assess retail opportunity potential and market trends
- Relationship-building abilities with diverse retail stakeholders
- Self-motivated with excellent time management and territory planning skills
