Central Concrete is a Ready‑Mix business owned and operated by an affiliate of Vulcan Materials Company, the nation's largest producer of construction aggregates and a major producer of aggregates-based construction materials including asphalt and ready‑mixed concrete.

What You'll Do:

This QC Manager role at Central Concrete will be responsible for managing the daily Greater Sacramento Area laboratory operations for ready‑mixed concrete while managing QC field technicians' daily duties.

This role requires an in‑depth understanding of industry codes and standards and will be expected to apply them while owning the quality control program including all concrete testing, concrete mix design development, completion of mix submittals, and the maintenance of all laboratory equipment. The ideal candidate will also possess a strong ability to comprehend both public and concrete specifications on a per job basis, the related concrete mix constituents and chemical admixtures, and general ready‑mixed concrete operations.

This integral team member will need strong customer service and communication skills and will be expected to follow a collaborative approach to completing tasks across multiple departments.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Manage and assist in both completing concrete trial batches, and performing testing for current and future projects at the plant or in the field, with technical team members and ensure all industry standards are being followed
  • Schedule QC Technicians' daily work
  • Ensure the lab is current on all necessary certifications as applicable
  • Implement lab maintenance and equipment calibration procedures per industry standards. Ensure these are performed properly and per necessary schedules
  • Maintain a safe and clean lab environment
  • Assist in completing mix design submittals and developing QC test reports
  • Assist in managing the concrete product database to ensure that the products will meet all fresh and hardened concrete properties for each job
  • Responsible for technical investigation of field quality concerns or customer complaints related to quality
  • Maintain knowledge of technical standards and specifications and product updates and host training to sales and operations personnel as needed
Qualifications Skills You’ll Need:
  • Promote Safety. Take an active role prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure all assigned plants have zero accidents and are in total compliance with all Vulcan policies and procedures.
  • Communication Skills (writing/verbal). Ability to summarize and explain methods and data legibly, accurately, and professionally.
  • Computer skills. Functional skills in MS Office products, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Mathematical skills. Ability to accurately record test measurements, understand the mathematical formulas associated with the tests, and calculate test results in accordance with test procedures. Ability to develop and analyze statistical…
