Sunday Veterinary Emergency Technician/Assistant (Part Time)

Pet Vet Care Centers' Pacific & Santa Cruz Veterinary Specialists is seeking a Sunday Veterinary Emergency Technician/Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians. Pet Vet's mission is to improve the lives of animals and people by providing exceptional, compassionate care at every stage.

Position Overview

The veterinary assistant provides support to veterinarians and technicians by cleaning and maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising and grooming patients, preparing and sanitizing surgery suites, restraining and handling patients, and performing clerical and administrative work. They deliver quality care for all patients and provide exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide compassionate care to all patients.
  • Greet patients and owners, show them to an examining room, take weights and vital signs.
  • Triage patients; perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medication as directed by licensed veterinary technicians (LVT).
  • Calm and soothe anxious patients.
  • Assist doctors and technicians with administration of medications or patient restraint.
  • Perform laboratory tests and radiographs.
  • Operate and maintain hospital equipment (EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, scales, anesthetic monitors, etc.).
  • Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, maintain proper documentation, and log controlled drugs.
  • Feed patients as prescribed, record appetites, and report abnormal conditions.
  • Communicate positively with clients to ensure comfort.
  • Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medicinal plans.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the hospital daily, clean equipment, kennels, and facilities using appropriate chemicals, and complete laundry.
  • Bath and care for patients who stay overnight; ensure animals are clean and groomed before release.
  • Adhere to hospital safety and wellness regulations.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Maintain accurate medical records.
  • Show up for work regularly; full-time presence at work is essential for every shift.
  • Promote hospital products and services to support the organization.
  • Respond respectfully and urgently to directions from DVM or LVT.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Manager; may have additional duties if working in a specialty area.
Qualifications (Required)
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One or more years' experience in a veterinary environment, successfully performing all duties of this position.
  • IVC certification.
  • Experience with sedations.
  • Experience with TPR (triage).
  • General anesthesia experience (optional).
Preferred Skills (Nice To Have)
  • General anesthesia experience.
  • Veterinary ER experience.
  • Critical care experience.

Schedule
  • Sunday shifts, day and swing.
  • Every Sunday – 8 hour shifts.
Pay Range

$22‑$32 USD per hour.
