Education and Experience
  • Associate's degree equivalent to four (4) years of experience
  • Bachelor's degree equivalent to eight (8) years of experience

The Tribal Corps Youth Crew Leader will participate in and supervise Tribal Corps Members ages 16-24 involved in the Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation’s (Nation) Tee-ne Na’sr-dvlh-nvsh Program through the California Conservation Corp. This program will conduct 12 week-long projects throughout the calendar year that are focused on habitat conservation, cultural restoration, forest health and wildfire resilience along with outdoor access and recreation with the emphasis on climate change, stewardship, and the environment.

These projects are within the Nation’s aboriginal territory, both on and off tribal property and in coordination with the Nation’s Tribal Heritage Preservation Office (THPO) and promote land management, co-management, and restoration responsibilities. Possible state and federal agencies’ lands may also be included in project areas and lands. The Youth Crew Leader will be responsible for five (5) Tribal Corp Crew Job Program Volunteers, ages 16-24, and focus on twelve (12) week projects with a total of thirty-six (36) by the end of the grant period.

All Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation employees must submit to a background check and abide by all Tribal, federal, and state laws. All employees must comply with Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation drug free workplace policy and will be subject to pre-employment, random, for-cause, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing. Qualified American Indian Preference applies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide professional, behavioral and project guidance; ensuring standards of behavior, conduct and project quality are maintained.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make appropriate adaptations when encountering changing conditions. Ensure own safety in all aspects of assignment and for others.
  • Ability to research, present findings, and make recommendations in a clear and logical manner.
  • Demonstrate the ability to learn, share, practice, and impart traditional and contemporary Tolowa Dee-ni' knowledge, culture and language as related to cultural and natural resources.
  • Prepare written and oral reports and presentations.
  • Conduct GPS data collection pertaining to Tribal natural & cultural resources;
    Assist and participate in cultural resource field surveys and possible mapping.
  • Propagate and maintain propagated & native plants for possible projects mitigation. Cut and remove brush, small trees, and other vegetation using equipment included but not limited to: chainsaws, weed-eaters, trimmers, handsaws, pole saws, rakes, McLeods, Pulaskis, pruning shears, broom pullers, shovels, walk-behind mowers, etc. to achieve desired project results.
  • Other duties as assigned.
