The County of Colusa is looking for compassionate and skilled Institutional Licensed Vocational Nurses I/II to join our team. This is a full-time role with a Monday–Friday schedule through June 30, 2026. Beginning July 1, 2026, the tentative schedule may shift to either Monday–Wednesday or Wednesday–Friday, consisting of 12.5-hour day shifts, with occasional variation including nights, weekends, and/or holidays. There are two positions available that can be filled at any level, depending on qualifications. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies and establish an eligibility list to fill other openings without reposting.

What s this Job All About?

In this role, the employee delivers hands-on nursing care to support the physical well-being of patients and inmates, with the primary work location being the Colusa County Jail. Responsibilities include administering medications, monitoring vital signs, treating wounds, responding to medical emergencies, and coordinating care with healthcare providers. The position also involves maintaining accurate medical records, assisting with admissions and discharges, and helping ensure a safe and clean environment.

At the II level, the employee may work more independently, exercise greater judgment in patient care, and provide guidance or lead support to other nursing staff.

Role Responsibilities

Receives general supervision from the Institutional Supervising Registered Nurse, or other designated supervisory nursing or management staff. May provide functional or lead direction to assigned staff.

Qualifications

Institutional Licensed Vocational Nurse I

Experience: One year of professional experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in a public or private health care setting, or related experience. Experience working in a 24-hour psychiatric or adult correctional facility is desirable.

Training: Graduation from an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse program.

Institutional Licensed Vocational Nurse II

Experience: Two years or more of professional experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in a public or private health care or correctional facility setting. Experience in a 24-hour psychiatric or adult correctional facility is desirable.

Training: Graduation from an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse program.

Licenses and

Special Requirements (Both Levels)

Possession of a valid California driver’s license.

Possession of a valid and current Licensed Vocational Nurse license issued by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.

Completion of required continuing education to maintain licensure.

Possession of, or willingness to obtain, a National Provider Identifier (NPI).

Possession of a valid CPR certification.

Successful completion of an extensive and thorough law enforcement background investigation and maintenance of clearance while employed.
