Location: Lebec

The Maintenance Supervisor will perform a variety of tasks including plant maintenance, supervising 6-7 workers, solving complex maintenance issues, delegating tasks, reviewing, and completing reports and a variety of other related tasks.

1. Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce all National Cement safety policies, MSHA regulations, and Cal/OSHA standards.
  • Conduct pre-shift safety meetings, field audits, and equipment inspections.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained in LOTO, confined space, fall protection, and other required safety programs.
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free working environment.
2. Maintenance Planning & Execution
  • Supervise daily mechanical maintenance activities, assigning tasks and monitoring progress.
  • Coordinate with Production, Electrical, and Planning departments to prioritize work orders.
  • Ensure timely execution of preventive maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM), and corrective repairs.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures on equipment such as kilns, conveyors, crushers, ball mills, gearboxes, pumps, and hydraulic systems.
  • Review work orders for accuracy, time allocation, and material usage.
  • Direct a team of mechanical maintenance technicians, including union and non-union personnel.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and support employee development.
  • Maintain staffing schedules, manage call-outs, and coordinate overtime needs.
  • Promote teamwork and accountability within the maintenance department.
4. Equipment Reliability & Continuous Improvement
  • Assist in root cause analysis (RCA) of recurring equipment failures.
  • Support improvement initiatives to increase equipment uptime and reduce maintenance cost.
  • Recommend upgrades, modifications, or replacement of equipment to enhance reliability.
  • Verify the quality of all mechanical repairs and rebuilds.
5. Administrative Duties
  • Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track maintenance activities.
  • Approve and document labor hours, contractor work, and material usage.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation and cost tracking.
  • Maintain inventory of critical spare parts and coordinate procurement needs.
  • Generate maintenance reports and communicate status updates to management.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in heavy industrial, cement, mining, or similar environments.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of industrial mechanical systems, including:
  • Kiln and mill equipment
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge of MSHA, Cal/OSHA, and industrial safety standards.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work rotating schedules, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical diploma or degree in Mechanical Maintenance, Industrial Technology, or related field.
  • Experience using CMMS systems (e.g., SAP, EAM, Maximo).
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Experience supervising unionized labor.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks involving climbing, kneeling, bending, and working at heights.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures, dusty environments, and confined spaces.
  • Must pass all required medical, respirator, and fit-for-duty evaluations.
Working Conditions
  • Heavy industrial cement manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to moving machinery, noise, dust, and uneven surfaces.
  • Use of PPE including hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, gloves, and respiratory protection.
