Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Campus Safety Manager develops and implements a unified Campus Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). The Safety Manager is the lead and point person for safety planning, training, and maintains safety practices and procedures. The Campus Safety Manager works collaboratively with the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Safety Task Force, and Incident Command.
This role oversees community safety awareness, emergency preparedness, risk management, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
The Campus Safety Manager will collaborate closely with local emergency services (ERT, fire, medical, law enforcement, disaster response) to plan and implement safety protocols and ensure readiness for a wide range of emergency scenarios. The Campus Safety Manager will also lead environmental stewardship initiatives, including water conservation, waste reduction, energy management, and sustainability education.
Key Responsibilities Emergency Preparedness & Response- Create and maintain campus emergency and disaster response plans.
- Maintains and Updates the IA Incident Command Structure
- Review and manage the campus safety systems, maintain effective use of campus safety software, alarms, and camera systems (Titan HST/Visiplex/NetVR/Security Gates).
- Collaborates with ERT to organize and deliver safety training sessions (Table Top) for staff and students on emergency protocols, first aid, and lockdown procedures.
- Coordinates the Annual Review and Refinement of Emergency Protocols
- Is the Point person for internal Safety and/or Crisis Team meetings, agendas, and exercises
- Works with local EMD and all other Emergency Affiliations to maintain resources and suggest opportunities for campus collaboration
Serve as the administrative point of contact for safety training and planning. Is the administrative liaison with local fire departments, law enforcement, EMS, and regional emergency services to:
- Lead the development, training, and execution of emergency preparedness drills (e.g., wildfire, earthquake, severe weather, lockdown, evacuation).
- Coordinate drills and tabletop exercises for staff, students, and administrators.
- Establish and maintain incident command structure and communication systems.
- Manage emergency supplies and ensure readiness of response equipment.
- Develop, implement, and maintain an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) program in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Review ERT inspections, risk assessments, and audits of facilities, labs, kitchens, athletic areas, and grounds - communicating risks and weaknesses to Facilities Team and Site Leadership
- Ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
- Maintain safety data sheets (SDS), chemical inventories, and safe handling protocols.
- Maintain records of inspections, incidents, training, and compliance reports.
- Recommend budget allocations for safety, emergency preparedness, and environmental initiatives.
- Serve as the subject-matter expert for leadership on all EHS issues.
- Develop and deliver EHS training for faculty, staff, including safety orientations, first aid/CPR, fire safety, and hazardous materials handling.
- Support sustainability education efforts to promote environmental awareness across the school community.
