Overview
Therapeutic Riding Instructors Needed! Therapeutic Riding Instructor-(Path) Helen Woodward Animal Center, Rancho Santa Fe, CA. Part Time (~24 hours per week) with weekday, weekend (Sunday required), and holiday shifts as needed. Pay: $23.00/hour.
This role is ideal for a registered-level instructor with PATH Intl. credentials and several years of riding experience at an advanced level. Helen Woodward Animal Center is a certified PATH International member facility in Southern California. The position provides exposure to therapeutic techniques, PATH Intl. safety standards, and community engagement within the San Diego area.
Responsibilities- Ensure the safety and welfare of riders, horses, and volunteers during therapy sessions. Be attentive, knowledgeable, and proactive toward clients’ disabilities and behavioral tendencies.
- Prepare, coach, and evaluate lesson plans in alignment with each client’s capabilities and progression.
- Coordinate care with families and with physical and/or occupational therapists as needed.
- Recruit and assist in training horses for the therapeutic program.
- Lead and direct volunteers, promoting a respect-first environment and teamwork.
- Perform various therapeutic duties and customer interactions with energetic and professional conduct as required.
- Maintain quality animal care and records with accuracy, confidentiality, accessibility, and safekeeping.
- Current PATH Intl. certification as a registered-level instructor is required; advanced or Mastery level is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience working or volunteering at a PATH Intl. Premiere Accredited Therapeutic Riding or Member Center.
- 3–5 years of experience working with horses; advanced riding level preferred.
- Experience handling personnel concerns with urgency and professionalism.
- Reliable team player with the ability to work in multiple roles as needed and build positive relationships.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Solutions-oriented and able to meet individual and team goals.
- Ability to perform physical tasks (walking, standing, sitting, bending, lifting, reaching overhead). Up to 95% of time spent outdoors. Work involves proximity to animals and allergens.
- Driving duties are not required.
- Live Scan fingerprint background check required due to client needs and work environment.
