Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed. At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design.
In this hands-on role, you will be based entirely on-site at our Los Angeles Facility, collaborating closely with the Space Resources Program team. We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated, and hands-on electrical engineer. Your responsibilities will include ownership of the full design cycle of electrical hardware with minimal day-to-day oversight, drive verification evidence and anomaly closure with a strong culture of safety and quality, and delivery of high-quality products in a safety- and mission-critical environment.
We seek a candidate who brings technical know-how, leadership capabilities, and a dedication to quality, all of which are vital in making a positive impact on our mission. The pace at Blue Origin is brisk, with rapid cycles of design, analysis, and integration, aimed at delivering scalable solutions. Therefore, we need someone who is adaptable, proactive, eager to learn, and uncompromising on safety and quality.
Creativity, a spirit of innovation, and the ability to manage changing requirements are key to thriving in this role.
We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!
Key Responsibilities and Core Deliverables:Avionics and power architecture (for assigned elements):
- Own electrical architecture details for assigned avionics/instrument assemblies:power distribution/protection, interface electrical characteristics, grounding/bonding/shielding approach, and electrical/thermal deratinginputs.
- Develop and maintain electrical block diagrams, interface budgets, and acceptance criteria for your scope; support requirement decomposition/allocation to subcircuits.
- Deliverables:baselined power/interface budgets (for scope), block diagrams, requirements allocations, acceptance criteria, design notes.
- Design and release schematics/PCBs or box-level electrical designs for assigned hardware; perform EEE parts selection, tolerancing/derating, and vendor build package development.
- Partner with layout, mechanical, and analysis to address
SI/PIandEMC/EMIconsiderations; support design-for-manufacture/assembly/test. - Deliverables:released schematics/layout packages, BoMs, manufacturing outputs, assembly/test travelers, as-built records.
- Design and/or review harnesses, connectors, pinouts, and cable drawings for assigned interfaces; ensure robustness across environments and integration constraints.
- Draft and maintain electrical ICD content for your interfaces; support configuration/change control and interface verification planning.
- Deliverables:harness/connector drawings, pinout tables, CM-controlled ICD sections, interface verification plans/evidence.
- Develop and execute test procedures for functional/performance verification; support and troubleshoot
TVAC, vibe/shock, and EMI/EMCactivities relevant to your scope. - Analyze test data, document results, and drive discrepancies to closure in collaboration with MA/Q and cross-functional teams.
- Deliverables:ATP/ATR procedures & reports (scope), environmental/EMI/EMC support artifacts, discrepancy tracking/closures, qualification/acceptance summaries (scope).
- Support bring-up, diagnostics, and integration of your hardware to the instrument/satellite stack; provide NCR/MRB technical inputs and corrective action recommendations.
- Lead or co-lead failure investigations for issues within your scope, including root cause, containment, and redesign recommendations.
- Deliverables:integration procedures/checklists, failure investigation writeups, NCR/MRB inputs, integration test reports.
- Coordinate with Software on DAQ/command/telemetry electrical interfaces, time sync signals, and fault management hooks; support HIL/interface validation as needed.
- Deliverables:verified interface definitions (signal levels/timing), telemetry/channel definitions support, ops procedure inputs (scope).
