This position is responsible for directing, overseeing and monitoring the safe, efficient and expeditious operation and maintenance of the City's water treatment and distribution facility, which maintains a continuous supply of potable water for residential and commercial users. While the ability to exercise independent judgment and make independent decisions is a requirement, general direction is received from administrative personnel. Direct supervision is exercised over assigned personnel.

TYPICALWORKACTIVITIES

Supervises the daily administration, business and engineering activities of the Water Bureau in the treatment and distribution of water to the City;

Ensuresthatthe City’swatersystemisoperatedtomaintaincontinuedcompliancewiththeprovisions of Subpart 5-1 of the NYS Sanitary Code;

Designsandplansforwatermaininstallationsandextensionsforbetterserviceandimproved water supply;

Overseeswatermainandhydrantmaintenanceactivitiesandwatermeters and metering installations used to measure water consumption;

Engages,coordinatesandsupervisestheworkofoutsidecontractorsandconsultantsand determines if the work meets legal requirements and specifications;

Planssurveysofthewaterdistributionsystemsandsupplysystemforleaksandotherareasof unaccounted for water and recommends corrective action;

Makesfrequentinspectionsoffilterandpumpingplantequipmenttocheckoperations;

Investigatesmajorcomplaintsregardingtheoperationofthe Water Bureau ;

Directslayingofcitywatermainsandinstallationofgatesandvalves;

Coordinates Water Bureauactivitieswiththeworkofothercitybureaus ,departmentsandoutside agencies;

Supervisestherepairofallplantand Water Bureau equipment .

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS
: EITHER

• Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field and seven (7) years of experience in managing the operation, maintenance and repair of a municipal water distribution andtreatmentfacility,five(5) yearsofwhichmusthavebeeninasupervisorycapacity;or
• Possession of an Associate's Degree in Engineering or a related field and nine (9) years of experienceasdescribedin(A),five(5) yearsofwhichmusthavebeeninasupervisorycapacity;or
• Graduationfromhighschoolorpossessionofa High School Equivalency Diplomaandeleven (11) years of experience as described in (A) and (B), five (5) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
• An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) through (C).
