Primary Function
Reports to the Maintenance Manager and is aligned with the Production Supervisor to provide detailed maintenance planning, production coordination, and execution tracking for Aircraft Operations Support (AOS) activities at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC). Serves as a key integrator between Maintenance Operations Control, Production Supervision, Quality Assurance, and NASA Crew Chiefs to ensure maintenance activities are properly planned, sequenced, documented, and executed in alignment with flight schedules, aircraft readiness priorities, and AFRC procedures.
This position emphasizes schedule discipline, documentation accuracy, and production flow, rather than direct personnel supervision.
Maintenance Planning & Production Coordination
- Develop, maintain, and update maintenance plans, work packages, and production schedules for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events.
- Coordinate daily and weekly maintenance activities with the Production Supervisor, Maintenance Manager, and Maintenance Operations Control.
- Support long-range maintenance planning by tracking scheduled inspections, phase events, modification activities, and anticipated downtime.
- Identify production constraints (manpower, material, tooling, engineering disposition) and elevate risks early to leadership for resolution.
- Assist in sequencing maintenance tasks to optimize aircraft availability and minimize schedule disruptions.
Maintenance Execution Support
- Monitor work-in-progress across assigned aircraft and maintenance actions to ensure alignment with approved schedules and priorities.
- Track open discrepancies, deferred maintenance items, and MICAP conditions; support mitigation planning and recovery actions.
- Coordinate with Supply Chain, Parts Expediter, and Tool Control to ensure material readiness supports planned maintenance events.
- Interface with NASA Crew Chiefs to ensure aircraft-specific requirements and configuration considerations are incorporated into execution planning.
Documentation & Systems Management
- Ensure maintenance actions are properly documented in NAMIS or other NASA-designated maintenance information systems.
- Validate completeness and accuracy of work records, task closeouts, and maintenance status entries prior to aircraft release.
- Maintain production metrics and readiness data to support daily aircraft status meetings and leadership reporting.
- Assist in preparation of reports and data requested by the Program Manager, Site Lead, or NASA Technical Monitors.
Quality, Safety & Compliance Support
- Coordinate closely with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure inspection requirements, hold points, and acceptance criteria are met.
- Support compliance with FAA, NASA, AFRC, and AS9100D requirements related to maintenance execution and documentation.
- Promote adherence to safety procedures, FOD prevention, tool control, and SHEMP requirements during maintenance planning and execution.
Continuous Improvement & Readiness Support
- Analyze production flow, schedule adherence, and maintenance performance trends to identify improvement opportunities.
- Support implementation of process improvements that enhance maintenance predictability, documentation quality, and aircraft readiness.
- Assist leadership in developing recovery plans for delayed maintenance events or emergent operational demands.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly supervises aircraft maintenance leads, mechanics, and production control personnel. Exercises technical and administrative authority for task assignments, workload prioritization, and performance management in coordination with the Maintenance Manager.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of aircraft maintenance operations, production control, and maintenance planning principles.
- Familiarity with NASA AFRC maintenance processes, joint contractor/Government execution models, and Crew Chief integration.
- Working knowledge of FAA maintenance standards, NASA directives, and AS9100D quality system requirements.
- Proficiency with NAMIS or comparable aircraft maintenance information systems.
- Ability to analyze schedules, identify production risks, and communicate…
