Location: West Point

SJS Executives, LLC (SJS), also doing business as SJS Industrial, is currently seeking three (3) Diesel Powerplant Technicians supporting ongoing operations at a remote work site that’s a part of Naval Base Ventura County.

SJS is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 150 employees coast to coast and a headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia; it specializes in professional services to support federal and military organizations.



Note:

this position works an 8 day on/6 day off specifically at San Nicolas Island. The position will travel from Naval Base Ventura County to the island via government flight.

The pay range for this position will be $55-$63 per hour. The benefits also include: 11 paid federal holidays per year, 56 hours of annual accrued Sick Leave (equivalent to 7 paid days off), and a medical, health, dental, and life insurance bundle. This position also provides daily meal per diem while on site at $86 per day.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, repair, troubleshoot, monitor, install, test, and operate power plant systems, including diesel generators, transformers, switching stations, circuit breakers, substations, control panels, distribution and transmission systems, and associated building systems.
  • Operate and manage split-bus (Bus A / Bus

    B) electrical distribution systems to ensure redundancy, reliability, and safe load segregation.
  • Safely synchronize and parallel generators, including matching voltage, frequency, phase sequence, and phase angle, and perform proper load sharing.
  • Monitor and control real and reactive power output to maintain system stability and efficiency.
  • Maintain proper power factors and implement corrective measures to improve system performance.
  • Monitor, calculate, and manage kW, kVA, kVAR, amperage, and load demand to prevent overloading of generators and electrical equipment.
  • Operate and maintain voltage regulation and excitation systems to ensure stable voltage output.
  • Identify and respond to voltage regulation or excitation failures and take corrective action to prevent equipment damage.
  • Monitor plant electrical protection systems and respond appropriately to relay operations and alarms.
  • Support the operation and testing of protective relays for overcurrent, ground fault, under/over voltage, under/over frequency, and reverse power conditions.
  • Operate and maintain step-up and step-down transformers to support generation, distribution, and auxiliary power needs.
  • Maintain system frequency at 60 Hz through proper governor control, load management, and operational adjustments.
  • Perform scheduled outages, lockout/tagout procedures, energization, and de-energization activities.
  • Support construction, commissioning, and modification activities for power generation and electrical systems.
  • Operate, inspect, repair, and maintain tools, test equipment, and instrumentation related to power generation systems.
  • Read, interpret, and apply electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, construction blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Coordinate work with other trades to ensure safe and efficient execution of operations and maintenance activities.
  • Comply with all applicable safety regulations, codes, and standard operating procedures.
Requirements
  • In accordance with federal regulations, possession of a valid Real  a requirement for this position.
  • Possess a valid California Class “C” driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in diesel power generation and electric power systems operations.
  • Working knowledge of split-bus electrical distribution systems and generator paralleling techniques.
  • Understanding of power factor theory, kW, kVA, kVAR relationships, and electrical load calculations.
  • Ability to calculate electrical loads, amperage requirements, and system capacity.
  • Knowledge of voltage regulators, excitation systems, and their failure modes.
  • Familiarity with protective relays, fault detection, and electrical system protection principles.
  • Understanding of step-up and step-down transformer operation and applications.
  • Knowledge of frequency control principles and the impact of frequency deviations on electrical systems.
