Overview
The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) is a 9.5-month, live-in position responsible for the overall administration and operation of several residential units, overseeing approximately 300-400 residential students, and a varied staff of RAs (Resident Assistants). Duties include selection, training, supervision and evaluation of an RA staff and on-campus programming responsibilities. This position serves as an integral role within the Office of Student & Residence Life (OSRL) and is directly supervised by the Director of Residence Life.
Responsibilities- Oversee residential administrative processes, including opening and closing of residence halls, health and safety inspections, room changes, census reports, work orders, and on-duty and crisis management responsibilities.
- Select, supervise, train and evaluate a staff of Resident Assistants with an emphasis on student leadership, peer support, and team cohesion.
- Provide regular one-on-one RA and group team meetings to guide RA development and residential area community.
- Serve in a rotating, on-call system with the RLC team, providing after hours crisis response and support.
- Assist with in-service and staff training, as well as student leadership development initiatives.
- Plan, implement, and assess programming based on Ashland University’s Division of Student Affairs and University student learning outcomes.
- Uphold all university policies and facilitate educational student conduct meetings in accordance with the Ashland University Student Handbook, and per the Office of Student Conduct.
- Assist with housing lotteries and room assignment procedures.
- Meet with students experiencing personal and/or academic challenges and refer to appropriate campus partners.
- Promote and build positive relationships with students across campus through engagement within the residence halls and on campus.
- Build and sustain a collaborative relationship with key campus partners to increase the visibility of Residence Life professional staff and coordinate cross-campus opportunities (e.g., with Safety Services, Facilities & Building Services, Fraternity & Sorority Life, International Student Services, Admissions, Counseling, etc.), while joining committees and/or task forces as necessary.
- Actively contribute to office management, administrative tasks related to the Front Desk and its student staff, as well as all communications via Residence Life.
- All other special projects and duties as assigned.
- Live-in residency and supervision of multiple residential units required.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability and willingness to work evenings, weekends and non-traditional times.
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion.
- Serve as a responsible employee, and Title IX mandatory reporter.
- Prior Residence Life, Student Affairs, or Higher Education experience preferred.
- Familiarity with inclusive student development practices and wellness frameworks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Colleague, eRezLife, and the Microsoft Suite preferred.
