Primary Objective: The District Special Education Evaluator is a highly qualified teacher with significant skills in providing educational evaluation and/or classroom observations. The educational evaluation and/or classroom observations are completed as part of a comprehensive educational evaluation for students who may have an educational disability.

Required Qualifications
  • Must possess a MN teaching license in special education
  • Minimum five years of directly related teaching experience
  • Strong working knowledge of modifications and adaptations across curricular areas
  • Knowledge of educational philosophy, teaching methods and approaches, and current researched best practices and strategies
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written
  • Knowledge and familiarity with a variety of educational testing/assessment instruments and administration procedures required
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse community, district staff members, parents and the public
  • Strong working knowledge of special education due process compliance
  • Comfortable with collecting and interpreting data
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working at multiple grade levels.
  • Experience working with students with emotional, cognitive, learning, or developmental difficulties is preferred.
  • Prior successful experience in an urban setting working with a diverse student population is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
  • Administers, scores and interprets standardized educational assessment measures according to established standards and with accuracy.
  • Conducts and completes program-specific written psycho-educational evaluations, including educational evaluation or classroom observations in order to determine if a student had an educational disability using the criteria from the Minnesota Department of Education.
  • Develops and documents, clear, integrated, comprehensive educational formulations and recommendations that are individualized based on evaluation results.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of learning processes, learning disorders, instructional strategies, and interventions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of state special education laws and regulations.
  • Makes recommendations in accordance with best practices and evidence-based practice models where appropriate and adheres to model and program expectations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of referral process and resources.
  • Communicates orally and in writing, in a positive, effective manner with student, staff, family and all internal and external providers as needed.
  • Functions as a strong and supportive team member who understands and embraces a multidisciplinary team model.
  • Attends required meetings.
  • Adheres to district policies and procedures and displays excellent work habits.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and decision-making by maintaining the ability to plan, organize, disseminate information, and analyze and resolve problems.
  • Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
