Base rate is $8,939; rate with Master’s Degree is $9,178; rate with Master’s degree and two years of college-level teaching experience is $9,417. POSITION SUMMARYCulinary Institute of America Adjunct Faculty members are responsible for teaching students a high standard of professionalism. The responsibilities of Adjunct Faculty include but are not limited to teaching and evaluating students. Adjunct Faculty members also maintain office hours, assist students who are having difficulty with studies, and honor college policies.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONBeverages & Customer Service Adjunct (BAKE-255) 3.0 credits
This course builds on the topics introduced in Introduction to Service and Beverage (HMFB 210) and will give students a realistic environment in the café where they will interact with guests and be able to identify and handle customer needs while engaging in critical‑thinking topics. The student will learn to define and execute exceptional hospitality and learn what it is to provide accurate guest service.
The course will provide an overview to a wide variety of beverages; hot, cold, alcoholic, and non‑alcoholic; models of service, retail packaging, point of sales system, marketing, merchandising, inventory management, and the processes of receiving, storing, and preparing all beverages. In addition, students will learn to pair beverages with food items, manage inventories, control costs, and understand the need for teamwork in a front‑of‑house service‑focused café environment.
Students will apply and evaluate operational systems that are relevant to provide high quality café service and hospitality.
- Prepares daily lesson plans for classes and teaches classes as requested and scheduled, in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the Institute.
- Works individually as an advisor for students who may need extra help, who have questions about course information, who want career guidance, or who need assistance in their studies.
- Provides regular and constructive feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluates and documents student performance using established methods and criteria; files course grades consistently and without prejudice.

- Compiles and presents instructional material at scheduled times and places in accordance with the College Catalog descriptions, course syllabi and outlines and class schedules as assigned.
- Utilizes the established syllabus and textbook(s) for the course being taught.
- Maintains record of student attendance, student progress, and grade distributions.
- Maintains discipline and order during instructional activities.
- Supervises students in delivering quality service according to College guidelines.
- Enforces sanitation principles (appropriate to teaching assignment), attendance policies, Institute’s Professionalism, Uniform, and Hygiene Policy, and other academic policies.
- Supports the mission and policies of the Institute as well as the overall strategic direction of the Education Department.
- Assumes responsibility for equipment and facilities of the classroom.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Associates degree.
Experience:
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in café/bakery or restaurant operations.
- Experience with Micros or similar POS systems.
- Bachelors degree.
- Prior teaching experience.
- Experience with Moodle preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of beverage and service operations, including coffee, tea, espresso‑based beverages, beer and wine, and café service techniques.
